1st Liberty Auto Loans: Rates and CARFAX

1st Liberty Federal lists auto APR tiers by vehicle year, but its public auto page does not establish a required CARFAX policy. The October 19, 2026 table starts at 3.99% APR for 2021-and-newer vehicles, subject to a lender quote and approval.

I reviewed 1st Liberty's official auto-loan and history pages for this November 5, 2026 guide. So, the starting APRs below belong to that Montana institution, not Nebraska's Liberty First Credit Union. The names are easy to transpose when a dealer sends a list of financing choices; open the official lender page before making comparisons.

Use the correct model-year row

The HTML auto table effective October 19, 2026 lists 2021 and newer at as low as 3.99% APR, 2018 through 2020 at as low as 4.99% APR, and 2017 and older at as low as 6.99% APR. These are advertised floors, not guaranteed approvals. Confirm the year classification against the VIN and title rather than a seller's description. A car first registered in one year may belong to a different model year. The loan officer should resolve that before quoting.

Ask for the term that goes with the APR

The concise public table does not attach a detailed term schedule to each headline tier. Request the available term, required down payment, financed amount and final APR for the actual vehicle. Do not pair the lowest posted rate with the longest term you happen to want. Ask for the finance charge and total payments on a consistent basis. A hypothetical $20,000 comparison is useful only when competing lenders quote the same financed amount and term, with fees and add-ons disclosed.

Treat preapproval as a financing step

The lender advertises preapproval and purchase or refinance options. That helps organize financing before shopping, but it does not certify a particular car's structure, ownership history or title status. Ask when collateral review takes place and what can still change before funding. A seller's claim that the vehicle is preapproved needs direct confirmation. Have an independent inspector evaluate condition while the lender evaluates whether the car is acceptable security for the loan.

Check the former names without creating duplicate lenders

The official history says the credit union began as Great Falls Air Force Base Federal Credit Union in 1955 and became Malmstrom Air Force Base Federal Credit Union in 1956. Those names may appear in older material, but current quotes should come from 1st Liberty. Do not combine its terms with Liberty First's checking discounts or title language. Each institution has its own offer and approval process. Verify the organization through the official site before trusting a forwarded application link.

Find out whether CARFAX is required at all

The public auto page reviewed does not identify a mandatory report brand, required report date or acceptable report purchaser. Ask the lender to specify those requirements, if any, before ordering a report for its benefit. For your own due diligence, check the VIN and review title records independently. Our credit-union title checklist helps frame collateral questions, but it does not supply 1st Liberty policy. A clean-looking seller PDF can hide missing pages or a mismatched VIN.

Keep optional products and liens visible

The lender page advertises optional warranty and GAP-related products with limitations; request their separate cost and terms instead of assuming they are required for the APR. If there is a seller lien, confirm the payoff and release route before sending money. Our buying with an existing lien guide and loan-to-value explanation cover the practical risks. Adding products to the balance may affect affordability even when the nominal rate stays the same. Get a line-by-line purchase and loan breakdown.

Keep the vehicle checks separate from approval

Loan approval does not certify the car's condition or a seller's ownership story. The NYC consumer-agency used-car guide recommends independent inspection, and the federal Buyers Guide rule describes dealer disclosure requirements rather than a credit-union CARFAX mandate. A private sale follows a different disclosure setting. Use our inspection checklist to define the mechanical work before you release funds.

Before you authorize funding

Ask 1st Liberty to attach the term, collateral decision and any report requirement to its written quote. Look, a dealer relationship with a lender is useful access, but it does not replace your own inspection or the lender's final approval. So, request a dated written approval tied to the actual VIN, amount financed and loan term. Keep the rate quote, collateral answer, purchase agreement and any payoff instructions together. The CFPB auto-loan resources explain shopping and comparing offers; they do not establish this lender's underwriting policy.

We are a licensed CARFAX and AutoCheck reseller, not affiliated with CARFAX, AutoCheck or Experian. Guest reports have been about $5.50, member reports about $4.50 and a two-report bundle about $6.75; confirm at checkout. A report can miss unreported work, so keep the inspection appointment even when the history looks quiet.
