CheapCarfaxAutocheck ("we", "us") operates https://www.cheapcarfaxautocheck.com, a service that provides vehicle history reports. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Account information — name, email address, and a hashed password when you create an account. We never store passwords in plain text.
- Payment information — all payments are processed by PayPal. We never receive or store your card number, bank details, or PayPal credentials; we receive only the transaction confirmation (order ID, amount, and the email address associated with the payment).
- Purchase and usage records — the VINs and license plates you look up, the reports you purchase, and your credit and subscription balance, so we can deliver your reports and account history.
- Analytics — page views with coarse device, browser, and operating-system information derived from your browser's user-agent string. We use this to understand how the site is used.
- Cookies — a session cookie to keep you signed in, and a CSRF token to protect forms. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
How we use information
- Delivering the reports and tools you request, and maintaining your account, credits, and subscription.
- Sending transactional email: account verification, password resets, receipts, and report-ready notifications.
- Preventing fraud and abuse (rate limiting, payment-fraud screening).
- Improving the site through aggregate usage analytics.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not send marketing email unless you opt in (for example, by subscribing to the blog newsletter — which you can leave at any time).
Who we share information with
- PayPal — to process payments and subscriptions.
- Our vehicle-history data provider — the VIN you request a report for is sent upstream to generate that report. No account details accompany it.
- Service providers — hosting and email delivery, bound to processing data only on our behalf.
- Legal requirements — if required by law or to protect our rights and users.
Data retention
Account and purchase records are kept while your account is active and as required for tax and accounting purposes. You can request deletion of your account at any time (see "Your rights").
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the California Consumer Privacy Act and the EU General Data Protection Regulation), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected] from the address on your account. We respond within 30 days and never discriminate for exercising your rights.
Security
All traffic is encrypted with HTTPS (HSTS enforced). Passwords are hashed, payment handling is delegated entirely to PayPal, and access to production systems is restricted.
Children
The service is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
We will post any changes to this policy on this page and update the date above. Material changes will be announced on the site.
