Acura Recall Check by VIN: Open vs Fixed on a Used Acura

To check Acura recalls on a used MDX, RDX, TLX, or Integra, run the 17-digit VIN on NHTSA's recall lookup and on Acura's owner recall search, then ask an Acura dealer for the campaign history printout. Anything listed as incomplete is a free repair the car is still owed. In mid October 2026, the two campaigns we would ask about first are the 2026 front passenger seat weight sensor recall and, on older MDXs from snow-belt states, the rear subframe corrosion recall that still has no final fix.

One quirk trips people up. Acura recalls are filed by American Honda, so the paperwork says Honda, many campaigns are shared with a Pilot or Accord, and the dealer codes are short three-character Honda codes rather than anything with "Acura" in it. When we pulled Acura's NHTSA recall lists on October 13, 2026, several of the newest entries covered both brands at once. That is normal.

How to run an Acura VIN and read the status

Read the VIN off the lower windshield and the driver door sticker and make sure they match. Our walkthrough on checking recalls by VIN on NHTSA explains each status line. Then repeat the search on Acura's owner recall page, which now hands you off to Honda's MyGarage recall search. Remedy not yet available means the defect is confirmed but parts are not ready. Incomplete means a fix exists and nobody has done it. Completed should match a repair order with the campaign code and a date. Decode the VIN with our Acura VIN decoder too, because recall populations are built by trim and production date, and a listing that says "2020 Advance" is not proof of either.

The 2026 seat weight sensor recall

NHTSA recall 26V-332, filed May 21, 2026, says the front passenger seat weight sensor may crack and short circuit, which can cause the air bags to deploy unintentionally during a crash. The Acura models listed are the 2018-2021 and 2023 TLX, the 2019-2024 RDX, and the 2017-2020 and 2022-2026 MDX, alongside a long list of Hondas. Dealers replace the sensor, and owner letters went out July 7, 2026. The filing says it expands an earlier campaign, 24V-064, so a car that was clear in 2024 can show up open now. Honestly, a seller who says "we checked recalls when we bought it" is telling you about a different list.

RDX, TLX and Integra campaigns worth asking about

Several smaller campaigns are model specific. On a 2025 RDX, 25V-582 covers about 17,330 SUVs whose electric power steering software may push the system into a failsafe mode and drop the assist; dealers reprogram it. On the TLX, 24V-950 covers 167 cars from 2021-2023 with a fuel filler neck weld that can leak, and the fix is a new fuel tank. The Integra and Integra Type S sit inside the giant steering gearbox recall 24V-744, where excess internal friction can make steering hard; dealers replace a worm gear spring and regrease it.

Two bigger ones cross models. 25V-391 covers about 259,033 2021-2025 TLX, 2023-2025 MDX, and 2023-2025 Pilot vehicles whose brake pedal pivot pin was not secured properly, so the pedal can shift out of position. 23V-751 covers 2015-2020 TLX and 2016-2020 MDX V-6s whose connecting rod bearings may wear and seize. That remedy is inspect, repair, or replace the engine. If a V-6 Acura has a knock on a cold start, do not let anyone call it normal until a dealer has run that campaign.

Older Acuras: the inflator fix that needed fixing

Takata history still matters on 2016-and-older cars. 19V-182 covers Acuras such as the 2013-2016 ILX, 2003-2006 MDX, 2007-2016 RDX, and 2009-2014 TL that received a replacement driver inflator during an earlier Takata remedy, or a service module with the same inflator type, that may itself explode. So "the airbag recall was done years ago" can be true and still leave an open campaign. Our Takata air bag recall used-car check covers how to confirm which inflator is in the car.

2014-2020 MDX: the subframe recall still waiting on a fix

26V-365 covers 880,514 Honda and Acura vehicles, including the 2014-2020 MDX, that were sold in 22 salt-using states plus D.C. The rear subframe can corrode at the suspension mounting points. Interim letters went out July 27, 2026, and the final remedy, a reinforcement kit plus repair or replacement as needed, was anticipated for fall 2026. Consumer Reports traced it to a paint defect on the subframe. The same campaign hits the Pilot, so our used Honda Pilot buying guide has more on spotting rear subframe rust. On an MDX from Ohio or Michigan, get it on a lift before you talk price.

What a history report adds, and what it costs

A recall lookup will not tell you about a salvage brand, a flood title, or an odometer problem. CARFAX says its reports cover title brands, odometer readings, ownership, and reported accidents, and our guide on how to read a CARFAX report walks through those lines. Treat NHTSA and the Acura dealer as the source of truth for recalls. As of mid October 2026, a CARFAX report through us runs about $5.50 as a guest or about $4.50 as a member, and a CARFAX plus AutoCheck bundle about $6.75, versus roughly $39.99 to $44.99 at retail. Prices change, so confirm at checkout. We are a licensed CARFAX and AutoCheck reseller, not affiliated with CARFAX, AutoCheck, or Experian. If a seller texts you a recall screenshot but will not read you the VIN, assume the screenshot was edited.
