COMTRUST FCU CARFAX Policy

The indexed COMTRUST auto-loan material reviewed here describes financing rather than a named borrower CARFAX purchase mandate. Confirm the history-report condition for your VIN directly before paying for a report or a seller deposit.

I reviewed a search extract of the official COMTRUST auto-loan page on November 6, 2026; full-page access was blocked. The extract cannot settle all report requirements. So, ask the loan team for the current documentation checklist before spending money on history evidence.

Get the report condition from COMTRUST directly

The indexed COMTRUST auto-loan material reviewed here describes financing rather than a named borrower CARFAX purchase mandate. Direct retrieval of the full page was blocked, so confirm the current requirement with the loan team. State the VIN and seller type in your request. Do not treat a search extract as underwriting approval.

Ask how mileage affects the available term

The official-page search extract groups terms by mileage bands. Ask which band your vehicle falls into and how mileage will be established at closing. Get a quote for the actual car rather than applying the headline rate to every vehicle. Tell the officer if the odometer reading or title record is uncertain.

Separate purchase and refinance instructions

The public material describes new, used and refinance lending. Ask which documents are required for your transaction and whether private-party purchases follow a different process. If another lender holds the title, request written payoff and release instructions. A preapproval does not mean money can be handed to any seller immediately.

Request a current written rate and fee sheet

Ask COMTRUST for the APR, term, amount financed and optional product prices on a dated quote. The public information can change after you first read it. Check whether a longer term changes eligibility as well as the payment. Keep the quote conditional on the inspection and collateral review where possible.

Send a concrete collateral question

Ask COMTRUST Federal Credit Union whether the proposed vehicle qualifies with its present title status, mileage, age and seller type. State any brand, existing lien or unusual registration history before asking about the report product. Our credit-union branded-title checklist helps organise that request. Ask how recent any history evidence must be. Look, a fake PDF can conceal an ownership gap while a genuine report may still omit an unreported repair. Keep the officer answer in the purchase file and get a new answer if the VIN changes.

Compare financing and ownership costs on separate sheets

The CFPB auto-loan resources explain how to compare borrowing, including APR, term and amount financed. Our loan-to-value explainer covers why a large advance relative to vehicle value matters even when a payment fits. Request a dated quote with fees and optional products listed separately. For a deal with an existing lien, our lien-payoff steps helps you ask who receives the money and who supplies the release.

Keep the inspection outside the credit decision

Financing approval leaves the condition of the car to be established separately. NYC used-car buying guidance recommends an independent mechanic, while the federal dealer Buyers Guide rule concerns dealer disclosures rather than a credit-union CARFAX mandate. Ask the inspector for immediate repairs and a written estimate. Put repairs, insurance and registration beside the loan quote to judge whether the whole purchase still works.

Line up the paperwork before the handover

Before you collect the car, confirm with COMTRUST Federal Credit Union which documents it needs from the seller, who holds the title and how the lien will be recorded. Ask how long funding takes once the file is complete, so you do not promise the seller a date the credit union cannot meet. Verify any change in payment instructions by calling a number you already know. Keep the bill of sale, title copy, inspection report and loan papers together in one folder. If anything in the deal changes after approval, such as the price, the VIN or the seller, tell the loan team before closing rather than after.

Keep copies of every quote, disclosure and email from the loan team together. Ask for corrected documents when the vehicle or borrowing terms change, and check the final agreement against the version you accepted.

We are a licensed CARFAX and AutoCheck reseller, not affiliated with CARFAX, AutoCheck or Experian. Wholesale reports cost a few dollars; confirm current coverage and the total at checkout. A quiet report can miss unreported repairs. Keep the independent inspection even if the seller sends an impressive PDF.
