Does Idaho Central Credit Union Require a CARFAX for a Car Loan?

Idaho Central Credit Union (ICCU) does not list a CARFAX or AutoCheck report as a requirement on its public auto loan or vehicle rateboard pages. It posts best-rate APRs for 2023-or-newer vehicles by term, with a processing fee up to $39 and terms up to 84 months. Those rates assume the car is the car. A history check before you sign is still on you.

What Idaho Central Credit Union's page says

I read ICCU's auto loan page and vehicle rateboard on Nov. 5, 2026. The rateboard showed best rates for 2023 or newer vehicles:

  • 48 months: 5.69% APR
  • 60 months: 5.94% APR
  • 72 months: 6.24% APR

The auto loan page repeated those "as low as" figures, noted terms up to 84 months, and listed a processing fee up to $39. It also said the listed rates are best rates and that yours may be higher depending on credit history and underwriting. Membership eligibility is required (ICCU describes serving members who live or work in its footprint, including Idaho and nearby states).

I did not see a separate used-car rate table for older model years on those pages, so call or apply if the car you want is older than 2023.

Does Idaho Central Credit Union require a CARFAX?

No CARFAX, AutoCheck or vehicle history report requirement appears on the public auto loan pages I checked on Nov. 5, 2026. The credit union prices the loan on credit, term, vehicle age or value rules, and membership. Those numbers assume the car is what the seller claims. A branded title or a rolled-back odometer can leave you owing more than the car is worth even when the lender never asked for a report.

Why you still want a history report

Idaho Central Credit Union protects itself with credit checks, book value and eligibility rules. You protect yourself by reading the accident, title and odometer story before you sign. Our explainer on loan-to-value on a used car loan shows how a soft value number pushes you underwater, and GAP coverage is one way to limit the damage if the car is totaled early.

Dealer car or private sale

At a dealer, ask to see the full history report, then buy your own copy so you are not stuck with a salesperson summary. Match the VIN on the report to the dash and the contract. In a private sale there is no dealer desk to lean on. Run the report before you apply so you do not burn a credit pull on a car you will walk away from. Either way, the lender will still want the title, bill of sale and insurance before it funds.

How to check the car yourself before you sign

  • Run a vehicle history report and look for salvage, flood, rebuilt or lemon brands, odometer problems and past accidents.
  • Check open recalls at NHTSA. A lender will not do this for you.
  • Look up title history in NMVTIS if the car has moved between states.
  • Ask for proof that any old lien is released. Our guide on getting a lien release before you buy covers how.
  • Get a pre-purchase inspection on any private-party car.

A branded title changes the math. Many credit unions will not lend on one, or will lend less. See our guides on credit union loans on a salvage title and a loan on a rebuilt title car.

Questions to ask Idaho Central Credit Union

  • Are the posted rates still current as of today?
  • Do you finance private-party purchases the same as dealer deals?
  • Will you lend on a salvage or rebuilt title?
  • What mileage or model-year caps apply to my credit tier?

Rate math that bites buyers

Posted "as low as" APRs are for the strongest credit and the cleanest loan structure. Add-ons for older cars, high mileage or high loan-to-value can move the payment more than shoppers expect. We have seen buyers lock a payment number from a homepage banner, then meet a higher APR at the desk because the car was older or the LTV was above the teaser tier. Ask for a written quote on the exact VIN, term and down payment before you fall in love with a monthly number.

If the credit union will finance well above book value, that is convenience, not free money. Tax, title and a thin trade payoff can push you upside down on day one. Pair the lender quote with a history report and a realistic retail value, not the seller's asking price alone.

What the report costs

As of early November 2026 a CARFAX bought direct usually costs around $44.99, and AutoCheck sits a little lower. We are a licensed CARFAX and AutoCheck reseller, not affiliated with CARFAX, AutoCheck or Experian. Our guest price has been about $5.50 a report, about $4.50 for members, and about $6.75 for a CARFAX and AutoCheck bundle. Confirm the price at checkout, since it can change.
