Ineos Recall Check by VIN: Three Grenadier Campaigns So Far

Only three Ineos safety recalls are on file with NHTSA, and none yet for 2025-2026 Grenadiers. How to check both model years, confirm repairs, and what a clean result means.

Ineos Recall Check by VIN: Three Grenadier Campaigns So Far

To check an Ineos Grenadier for recalls, run its 17-character VIN through NHTSA, then search by year for both 2023 and 2024, because as of October 15, 2026 the federal file holds exactly three Ineos safety recalls and all three hit early trucks: a winch-relay wiring short, steering ball-joint nuts, and a door button that can leave a door unlatched. Nothing is on file for 2025 or 2026 model years yet. So on a 2023-2024 Station Wagon or Quartermaster you are asking for proof of up to three repairs, and on a newer truck an empty result is the normal answer.

We pulled this on Thursday afternoon, mid October 2026, two ways. First the NHTSA recalls API by make, model and year from 2023 through 2026, then a text search of NHTSA's post-2010 recall flat file dated that morning. Both returned the same three campaign numbers. One wrinkle showed up right away: the API only knows the model as "Grenadier," and a search for "Grenadier Quartermaster" comes back empty even though the flat file carries a Quartermaster row for the steering campaign. A blank Quartermaster search proves nothing.

The three Ineos campaigns on file

Unit counts below are the potential populations Ineos Automotive Americas reported to NHTSA.

  • 23V828000, 2024 Grenadier with the auxiliary switch package. Per the NHTSA record, the relay control wire could be trapped under the relay power cable fastener during assembly, which can damage its insulation and cause a short, raising fire risk. The flat file calls the part a winch relay. Dealers inspect and secure the wiring and repair or replace damaged wire for free. Population: 727 trucks, with owner letters mailed June 25, 2024.
  • 23V903000, 2023-2024 Grenadier. This campaign covers non-locking nuts mistakenly fitted to the steering rod ball joint. A loose or missing nut can let the joint separate from the steering knuckle, and you lose steering. Dealers install locking nuts. Only 61 trucks, letters also mailed June 25, 2024.
  • 25V147000, 2024 Grenadier. The door button recall is the big one at 7,022 trucks built July 6, 2023 through April 19, 2024. Too little grease in the exterior door button mechanism can leave the button stuck down so the door never fully latches, and it can open while you are moving. Ineos replaces the door button assemblies. Final owner letters went out September 12, 2025, and the NHTSA entry shows the campaign was influenced by the agency's own Office of Defects Investigation.

Why you should search 2023 and 2024

Model years on early Grenadiers do not line up neatly with the campaign labels. The Part 573 report for the door recall lists the affected VIN range as starting at SC6GM1CA0PF004877 and notes the range is not sequential. When we ran that first VIN through NHTSA's vPIC decoder, it came back as a 2023 model year Grenadier built in Hambach, France, even though the campaign is filed under 2024. So a truck titled as a 2023 can still fall inside a "2024" recall. Search both years, then trust the VIN-level answer.

The same report says the door problem is visible if you look for it: a button that stays pressed in, a different sound when the door shuts, and a door-open warning on the head unit that turns red with a chime if the truck starts moving. Ineos made a running change in April 2024, so later builds got the revised part. On a test drive, open and close every door and the tailgate a few times. A sticky button on a 2023-2024 truck with no repair invoice is a reason to stop and ask.

What a clean result means, and where it falls short

An empty NHTSA result means no open federal safety recall is recorded for that VIN, and that is all it means. Service bulletins and goodwill fixes that never became a safety recall will not show up. Honestly, small brands are the case where the VIN tool itself can let you down too: NHTSA says its VIN lookup may not cover small manufacturers, and we could not confirm Ineos is on its supported list. If the tool will not take the VIN, call Ineos. The recall records give 1-919-296-3626 for the 2023 campaigns and 1-833-494-4748 for the door recall. Those numbers come from the records themselves, so confirm they still answer.

Ask the selling dealer or an Ineos service partner to print the campaign status for that VIN. You want a dated repair order for each of the three, with the campaign named. If the seller only says "it all got done at the first service," keep asking until paper shows up. Our guide to decoding a VIN explains the 10th (year) and 11th (plant) characters.

Recalls are only part of the history

The Grenadier is a body-on-frame truck that C/D says uses a BMW-sourced turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, and plenty of them get used the way the marketing suggests. Car and Driver's Grenadier page lists a 5-year/60,000-mile warranty and notes service intervals drop to 6,000 miles or six months under heavy use, so a truck that went off-road hard should have a denser service record than one that commuted. A history report shows what the recall file cannot: accidents reported to the database, title brands, ownership changes and odometer readings. We resell CARFAX and AutoCheck reports as a licensed reseller (not affiliated with either) at about $5.50 as a guest or $4.50 for members, versus roughly $39.99 to $44.99 retail. Confirm at checkout. And pull your own copy, because a seller-supplied PDF is the easiest thing in this hobby to doctor.

If you are cross-shopping, the same drill works on the obvious rivals. Our Land Rover recall check covers the Defender, the Jeep version covers Wrangler campaigns, and the basic lookup steps for any make are in how to run an NHTSA recall check by VIN.
