Morgan Recall Check by VIN: 3 Wheeler Campaigns and How to Look

To check a Morgan for recalls, search NHTSA by the VIN and also by year, make and model, because small makers can be harder to find through the VIN tool alone. When I queried NHTSA on Nov. 5, 2026, the U.S. records for Morgan were two campaigns, both on the 2012-2014 3 Wheeler and both about brake fluid warnings. If you are looking at one of those, ask for proof the fix was done.

What NHTSA lists for Morgan

  • 13V313000: 2012-2013 3 Wheeler built from October 2012 to July 2013, about 139 units. The brake fluid reservoir was missing a required warning statement under FMVSS 122. Reported to NHTSA on July 16, 2013.
  • 14V384000: 2012-2014 3 Wheeler, about 235 units, built without a low brake fluid warning lamp required by FMVSS 122. Reported on July 1, 2014. NHTSA lists the remedy as dealers installing the lamp free of charge, with the recall starting Feb. 27, 2015.

FMVSS 122 is the federal brake standard for motorcycles. The 3 Wheeler was sold in the U.S. as a motorcycle, which is why these items fall under it, and why its registration and history records can look different from a car.

How to run the check

  • Find the 17-character VIN on the frame and the title, and make sure they match.
  • Enter it at the NHTSA recalls page. If nothing comes back, search by 2012, 2013 or 2014, make Morgan, model 3 Wheeler.
  • Decode the VIN with the NHTSA vPIC tool to confirm the year and build.
  • Ask the seller for the dealer invoice for the warning lamp install, or look for the lamp on the dash yourself.

Our general guide to an NHTSA recall check by VIN covers the tool step by step.

Other Morgans in the U.S.

Morgan has sold small numbers of four-wheel cars in the U.S. over the years, and many older ones came in as imports or classics. NHTSA showed no separate campaigns for those in my search. That is not a clean bill of health. It means nothing was filed in the U.S. system. For an imported car, read our note on grey market import history, since records from other countries rarely show up.

Why a history report still matters

A recall check covers safety campaigns only. It does not tell you about crashes, title brands or mileage. Three-wheelers and low-volume cars often have thin histories, so every record counts. Our guide on AutoCheck for motorcycles explains what kind of data shows up for motorcycle-class vehicles, and NHTSA versus CARFAX recalls explains why the two lists can differ.

Buying checks for a 3 Wheeler

  • Confirm the brake fluid warning lamp works with the key on.
  • Check the reservoir for the warning statement.
  • Look at the frame and front suspension for crash repairs.
  • Ask how it has been registered and insured, since states treat three-wheelers differently.
  • Get a shop that knows the car to look at the drive belt, the engine mounts and the brakes.

When to walk away

  • The VIN on the frame and title do not match.
  • No brake fluid warning lamp and no plan to fit one.
  • A branded title the seller did not mention.

Questions to ask the seller

  • Was the brake fluid warning lamp fitted by a Morgan dealer, and is there an invoice?
  • How many owners, and how many miles a year has it covered?
  • Has it ever been dropped, tipped or crashed?
  • Is it titled as a motorcycle, an autocycle or a car in your state?
  • Was it imported by a private owner, or sold new through a U.S. dealer?

On the day you buy

Match the VIN on the frame to the title and the bill of sale, and check that the title name matches the seller ID. Turn the key and watch for the warning lamps on the dash. If a lender is listed on the title, get the lien release before you pay. Some states require a motorcycle endorsement to drive a three-wheeler and others do not, so check your DMV rules before you ride it home. Keep the ad, the messages and the recall paperwork together with the title. If the warning lamp is still missing, contact a Morgan dealer about the free fix before you register the vehicle, and get the date in writing. A seller who has owned the car for years should know the answer.

What the report costs

As of early November 2026 a CARFAX bought direct usually costs around $44.99, and AutoCheck sits a little lower. We are a licensed CARFAX and AutoCheck reseller, not affiliated with CARFAX, AutoCheck or Experian. Our guest price has been about $5.50 a report, about $4.50 for members, and about $6.75 for a CARFAX and AutoCheck bundle. Confirm the price at checkout, since it can change.
