Selfreliance FCU CARFAX Policy

I reviewed Selfreliance FCU official auto-loan page for this November 7, 2026 guide. A public offer does not settle every vehicle-specific funding condition; ask the lender which requirements apply to your transaction. So, use the points below to prepare a loan conversation, rather than treating this page as approval or a personal rate quote.

Does Selfreliance require a CARFAX report?

Selfreliance FCU publishes new-purchase auto loan terms but does not state a universal CARFAX requirement on its public auto pages. Ask a member service representative whether a history report applies to your VIN, who orders it and which product counts. Give the title status and seller type. Keep the answer in writing.

Check the age, mileage and state limits

The Selfreliance disclosures say auto loans are for vehicles up to 12 years old with 120,000 miles or less, subject to underwriting. Term limits depend on model year, with older vehicles held to shorter terms. The page lists the states where it lends. Confirm your car and home state fit before you pay a deposit.

Ask about branded titles directly

Selfreliance says its maximum loan-to-value is 100%, with exceptions for rebuilt or salvage title vehicles. If the car carries a brand, raise it at the start and ask what applies. A history report may show the brand, but the lender decides how it treats one. Get the answer in writing.

Follow the private-sale rules

The Selfreliance FAQ says private-party purchases are allowed when the vehicle has no outstanding lien and the seller has a clean title. It sets out how the title must be signed or transferred at a branch. Plan the handover around those steps, and ask what documents the seller must bring.

Send a concrete collateral question

Ask Selfreliance FCU whether the proposed vehicle qualifies with its present title status, mileage, age and seller type. State any brand, existing lien or unusual registration history before asking about the report product. Our credit-union branded-title checklist helps organise that request. Ask how recent any history evidence must be. Look, a fake PDF can conceal an ownership gap while a genuine report may still omit an unreported repair. Keep the loan officer response in the purchase file and get a new answer if the VIN changes.

Compare financing and ownership costs on separate sheets

The CFPB auto-loan resources explain how to compare borrowing, including APR, term and amount financed. Our loan-to-value explainer covers why a large advance relative to vehicle value matters even when a payment fits. Request a dated quote with fees and optional products listed separately. For a deal with an existing lien, our lien-payoff steps helps you ask who receives the money and who supplies the release.

Keep the inspection outside the credit decision

Financing approval leaves the condition of the car to be established separately. NYC used-car buying guidance recommends an independent mechanic, while the federal dealer Buyers Guide rule concerns dealer disclosures rather than a credit-union CARFAX mandate. Ask the inspector for immediate repairs and a written estimate. Put repairs, insurance and registration beside the loan quote to judge whether the whole purchase still works.

Line up the paperwork before the handover

Before you collect the car, confirm with Selfreliance FCU which documents it needs from the seller, who holds the title and how the lien will be recorded. Ask how long funding takes once the file is complete, so you do not promise the seller a date the credit union cannot meet. Verify any change in payment instructions by calling a number you already know. Keep the bill of sale, title copy, inspection report and loan papers together in one folder. If anything in the deal changes after approval, such as the price, the VIN or the seller, tell the loan team before closing rather than after.

We are a licensed CARFAX and AutoCheck reseller, not affiliated with CARFAX, AutoCheck or Experian. Wholesale reports cost a few dollars; confirm current coverage and the total at checkout. A quiet report can miss unreported repairs. Keep the independent inspection even if the seller sends an impressive PDF.
