Wright-Patt CU Auto Loan: CARFAX, Rate Tiers and Title Rules

WPCU splits auto rates into 2023-and-newer and 2022-and-older tiers. The Oct 20, 2026 grid, membership and what it leaves for you to check.

Wright-Patt CU Auto Loan: CARFAX, Rate Tiers and Title Rules

Wright-Patt Credit Union (WPCU) in Ohio doesn't require a CARFAX or AutoCheck report on its auto loan pages and doesn't give you one. It also doesn't post a branded-title rule or a mileage or age limit. What it does post is a rate grid split by model year: as of Oct. 20, 2026, a 2023 or newer car started at 4.99% APR for up to 63 months, and a 2022 or older car started at 5.49%, with the top of each range above 15%.

I read WPCU's auto loan page, its rates page and its membership eligibility page on Oct. 20, 2026. The rates page doesn't show an effective date, so treat the numbers as what was posted that day. I didn't apply, so I can't tell you where in those ranges you'd land.

Who can join

The eligibility page covers people who live, work, worship or attend school in 23 Ohio counties, including Montgomery, Greene, Franklin, Hamilton, Butler, Clark, Delaware, Licking, Warren and Miami. Military and civilian employees at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base qualify, as do Wright State students, staff and alumni, members of select employer groups, and certain relatives of current members. Joining takes a one-time $5 deposit into a TrueSaver account.

The rate grid as of Oct. 20, 2026

The rates page shows two tiers. For 2023 or newer: 4.99%-15.44% up to 63 months, 5.49%-15.94% for 64-75 months, and 5.74%-11.74% for 76-84 months. For 2022 or older: 5.49%-15.94%, 5.99%-16.44% and 6.24%-12.24% for the same term bands. Every older-car band is a half point higher at the bottom.

Two things stood out to me. A 2022 car and a 2009 car sit in the same tier, at least on paper, and I saw no cutoff year. And the 76-84 month bands top out lower than the shorter terms, which usually means only stronger credit gets offered the long terms. That's my reading, not something WPCU spells out. The auto loan page says terms are based on creditworthiness, loan amount, loan term and age of vehicle.

How the loan works at the dealer

WPCU says you get pre-approved, then take the approval to a participating area dealership and sign there. The auto page also advertises up to 100% financing, no application fee, a fixed APR and no fees on the loan. Specialty vehicles like horse trailers and ATVs need a phone call. I didn't see anything about private-party purchases. If you're buying from a neighbor, ask first.

The add-ons get a lot of space on that page: GAP (which WPCU says may cover up to $1,000 of your insurance deductible), a Route 66 extended warranty and a Depreciation Protection Waiver. Read our GAP on a used car post before you add any of it. With 100% financing on a used car, you start out owing more than it's worth, and that's the gap these products are sold to cover. Skip-A-Pay lets you skip one payment a year for $10, but interest keeps running.

Payment math

My example, not WPCU's: $25,000 over 60 months at 5.49%, the floor for a 2022 or older car, is about $477 a month and $3,645 in interest. At 11.19%, the average used-car rate in Experian's Q2 2026 report (Q3 wasn't out when I looked), it's about $546 a month and $7,756 in interest. If your credit puts you near WPCU's 15.94% ceiling, the difference is bigger still.

What WPCU leaves to you

No posted title rule doesn't mean underwriting will finance a salvage or rebuilt car. Plenty of lenders say no once they see the brand. Read our Ohio salvage and rebuilt title rules and ask WPCU about a specific car before you hand over a deposit. Ohio winters are hard on cars too, and road-salt rust is something a report almost never catches.

Check title brands on NMVTIS, run your own history report, and get an inspection. Sellers who wave around a months-old printout are hoping you won't. WPCU's FAQ notes that Ohio titles are electronic and a lien usually takes 3 to 4 weeks to release after payoff. Our Ohio private-sale title transfer guide explains the title office steps, and the Ohio used car sales tax guide covers county rates.

CarVins is a licensed CARFAX and AutoCheck reseller, not affiliated with either one or with WPCU. As of late October 2026, a report through us was about $5.50 for guests and $4.50 for members, or roughly $6.75 for both, while retail sits around $39.99 to $44.99. Whatever checkout shows is the real price.
