To check Alfa Romeo recalls by VIN, run the 17-digit VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup, then ask an Alfa Romeo dealer for the open campaign printout on that exact car. Any line marked incomplete is free repair work the car still owes. In mid October 2026 the ones that matter most on a used Giulia or Stelvio are the 2017-2019 fuel pump campaign and the rearview camera fix, and on a Tonale plug-in hybrid you want the cable overheating recall closed before the car ever sleeps in your garage.
Alfa Romeo is part of Stellantis, and its U.S. recalls are filed by FCA US, so the NHTSA PDF says "Chrysler (FCA US, LLC)" at the top. That confuses people. You will also see the Tonale listed next to the Dodge Hornet on several filings, because the two share hardware. When we pulled Giulia, Stelvio, and Tonale data from NHTSA on October 13, 2026, the list was longer than most shoppers expect from a low-volume brand, and a few campaigns had interim letters with final parts promised later. That gap is where sellers get vague.
How to run an Alfa VIN and read what comes back
Start by matching the VIN on the windshield plate, the door jamb sticker, and the title. Our walkthrough on checking recalls by VIN on NHTSA explains what incomplete, completed, and remedy not yet available actually mean. Then call the service desk at an Alfa dealer and ask for open campaigns by VIN. The dealer screen uses FCA codes like 93C or A2C, while NHTSA uses numbers like 25V-586. Both point at the same repair. Honestly, a screenshot texted by the seller tells you nothing, since it could be from any car or any year.
Giulia and Stelvio: fuel pump, camera, air bag sensor
The big one for early cars is 25V-586, which covers about 53,849 2017-2019 Giulia and 2018-2019 Stelvio vehicles whose fuel pump may fail and cut drive power. Dealers replace the fuel delivery module. Interim letters went out in October 2025, and the filing said the final remedy was expected in July 2026, so ask the dealer point blank whether parts are in and whether this VIN has had the work. A stall on the highway is not a cosmetic issue.
On 2020-2025 cars, 25V-667 covers about 62,910 Giulia and Stelvio vehicles whose rearview camera image may not display properly. Dealers inspect and replace the radio as needed and update the camera software. Then there is 24V-510, a big shared Stellantis filing of about 337,128 vehicles: 2017-2024 Giulia, 2018-2025 Stelvio, 2019-2023 Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade, and 2024 Fiat 500e. A seat belt buckle switch sensor may be improperly connected and keep the front air bag from deploying as intended. Dealers repair the connection. If you are cross-shopping a Renegade, our Jeep recall check by VIN guide covers that side.
Cars built with the optional carbon ceramic brakes have their own line. 23V-382 covers about 719 2017-2020 Giulia and 2018-2020 Stelvio vehicles where the brake system can clamp hard enough to fracture a rotor during certain maneuvers. The fix is a brake system module software update. Small population, expensive parts, so check it.
Tonale: plug-in hybrid cables and a brake pedal
The Tonale is the newest Alfa in this mix, with NHTSA filings listing it from model year 2023, and its recall list reads like a new-platform list. 23V-623 covers about 4,129 2023-2024 Tonale and Dodge Hornet plug-in hybrids whose 12-volt positive cable or high voltage connector may not be tightened properly, which can overheat and cause a fire parked or driving. Owners were told to park outside and away from structures until dealers inspected and tightened the connections. 24V-752 covers about 21,069 2024-2025 Hornet and Tonale vehicles whose brake pedal may collapse; dealers reinforce the pedal arm. Car and Driver's Tonale review notes average warranty coverage despite the brand's reputation for spotty reliability, which is one more reason to get every campaign closed while the car is still young.
The 4C is a separate story. It was a tiny-volume sports car, and our NHTSA model query for it came back empty, so do not take that as a clean bill. Run the actual VIN on NHTSA and have a dealer check it.
What a recall check will not show you
A clean recall screen says nothing about flood brands, rebuilt wrecks, or a rolled odometer. CARFAX says its reports cover title brands, odometer readings, ownership history, and reported accidents, and our guide on how to read a CARFAX report walks through those lines. Consumer Reports' Alfa Romeo pages are worth a look for ownership patterns once the VIN checks out. As of mid October 2026, a CARFAX report through us runs about $5.50 as a guest or $4.50 as a member, and a CARFAX plus AutoCheck bundle about $6.75, versus roughly $39.99 to $44.99 retail. Prices move, so confirm at checkout. We are a licensed CARFAX and AutoCheck reseller and are not affiliated with CARFAX, AutoCheck, or Experian.
