FIAT Recall Check by VIN: 500, 500X, 500L, 124 Spider

To check FIAT recalls by VIN, put the 17-digit VIN into NHTSA's recall lookup and then have a FIAT or Chrysler-family dealer print the open campaigns for that car. Anything still incomplete is a free repair the car owes you. Most used FIATs in mid October 2026 are older 500, 500X, 500L, and 124 Spider cars that have passed through several owners, so the real risk is a recall nobody ever bothered to close, like the 124 Spider air bag software fix or the 500X seat belt sensor repair.

FIAT recalls are filed by FCA US, part of Stellantis, which is why the NHTSA documents say "Chrysler" at the top and why a 500X often shares a filing with the Jeep Renegade. The 500e also needs a note. There are two very different cars wearing that name: the original 2013-2019 electric 500, and the newer battery-electric 500e that showed up for 2024. When we pulled FIAT data from NHTSA on October 13, 2026, the old and new cars had completely separate campaigns, so decode the model year before you read anything.

How to run a FIAT VIN without getting fooled

Match the windshield VIN to the door jamb label and the title first. Our guide to checking recalls by VIN on NHTSA explains incomplete versus completed versus remedy not yet available. If you are not sure which body or engine you are looking at, our Chrysler VIN decoder post covers how FCA-family VINs are laid out. Then call a dealer and ask for open campaigns by VIN. Dealers use FCA codes such as A3B or 82B; NHTSA uses numbers like 24V-694. Same repair, two labels.

FIAT 500 and 500e: the small car list

On the gas 500, 24V-474 covers about 12,675 2014-2019 cars whose tire pressure warning light may not come on as intended. Dealers reprogram the TPMS module. Older manual cars carry 16V-302, about 39,185 2012-2016 FIAT 500s with a manual transmission whose clutch diaphragm spring may fracture and leave you unable to shift. The remedy added a clutch pedal limiter and switch. A recall letter mailed in 2016 went to whoever owned the car back then, not to you, so do not assume it got done.

The original electric car has its own history. 16V-303 covers about 16,584 2013-2016 500e vehicles whose power inverter module can see voltage spikes and shut down propulsion; dealers update the inverter software. On the newer 500e, 25V-715 covers about 2,195 2024-2025 cars whose headlight aim adjuster was not covered as intended, and dealers install adjustment plugs. Car and Driver's 500e review lists a 117-hp motor, a battery of roughly 37 kWh, and up to 149 miles of EPA range, so it is a city car first. A recall check will not tell you battery health, so ask for a charge history too.

500X and 500L: shared Stellantis parts

The 500X rides on hardware shared with the Jeep Renegade, and the recall list shows it. 24V-510 is a roughly 337,128-vehicle filing that includes 2019-2023 500X and Renegade, plus 2024 500e and several Alfa Romeo models. A seat belt buckle switch sensor may be improperly connected so the front air bag does not deploy as intended, and dealers repair the connection. Earlier, 16V-529 added 2016 500X cars with the 9-speed automatic to a campaign where the transmission may shift to neutral unexpectedly. Our Jeep recall check by VIN page covers the Renegade side if you are shopping both. On the 500L, 14V-481 covers about 25,479 2014-2015 cars whose driver knee air bag may not deploy properly; dealers replace it.

124 Spider: air bag software and a fuel pump

The 124 Spider has its own campaigns, and they are not optional reading. 24V-694 covers about 15,835 2017-2020 cars whose air bag control module software may make the front air bags deploy with excessive force in a crash. Dealers update the software, and owner letters did not go out until June 2025, so plenty of these may still be open. 21V-879 covers about 1,622 2019 cars whose fuel pump impeller may deform and fail; dealers replace the pump.

Where a recall check stops

A clean campaign list does not mean a clean car. CARFAX says its reports cover title brands, odometer readings, ownership, and reported accidents, and our guide on how to read a CARFAX report goes line by line. Consumer Reports' FIAT pages help with model-year reliability. As of mid October 2026, a CARFAX report through us is about $5.50 as a guest or $4.50 as a member, and a CARFAX plus AutoCheck bundle about $6.75, compared with roughly $39.99 to $44.99 retail.
