APG Federal's used-car table effective 11-05-2026 starts at 4.94% APR for up to 36 months, but those rates apply to franchise-dealer purchases or refinances of cars up to two years old. The page sets no CARFAX requirement, so ask before you buy a report for underwriting.
For this November 5, 2026 guide I read APG Federal's car and truck rate page, which shows Effective 11-05-2026 above both the new and used tables. The fine print changes what the headline means, so I read it line by line. So, treat the numbers below as floors with conditions attached, not a quote for a five-year-old car from a private seller.
Read the used table with its conditions
The used table lists automated-payment APRs from 4.94% for 1 to 36 months, 5.19% for 37 to 51 months, 5.44% for 52 to 63 months, 5.84% for 64 to 75 months and 6.74% for 76 to 84 months. The footnote says those rates are for purchases from a franchise dealer or refinances on model years up to two years old. That leaves out a lot of ordinary used-car shopping. Ask what rate applies to an older car or a private sale before you compare.
Note the term caps by vehicle age
The same page says the maximum term for used vehicles between three and seven years old is 75 months, and for vehicles eight years or older it is 63 months. So an 84-month row does not help on a typical older car. Check the model year against the title before you build a payment around a long term. Ask how APG counts vehicle age at closing.
Understand the automated-payment discount
The tables are labeled automated payments APR, and the page says you must set up an automated loan payment from an APGFCU account at settlement to qualify. Ask what the rate becomes without it. The example payments are based on the maximum term in each range, and a footnote cites a $20,000 minimum loan amount for the examples. Rates are honored for 30 days from the loan decision, so watch the calendar if the car hunt drags on.
Ask whether APG wants a history report
The rate page reviewed does not name a required CARFAX or AutoCheck product, report age or purchaser. Ask whether APG orders its own history or needs title documents before disbursement. Our credit-union branded-title checklist helps you prepare collateral questions without inventing APG policy. A clean seller PDF is not independent proof of a clean title. Match the VIN everywhere.
Confirm you have the right APG
APG Federal says it started in Harford County in 1938 and is headquartered in Edgewood, with lending decisions made locally, per its official history page. Similar initials belong to other organizations, so open the official site before following any dealer link. Confirm the current institution and membership rules before applying.
Line up the lien and payoff steps
If you refinance or buy a car with an existing loan, ask how APG coordinates payoff and title transfer. Our lien-payoff steps explain the sequence, and the loan-to-value explainer covers the gap between price and acceptable collateral value. Keep membership, approval and inspection on separate tracks. Each needs its own paperwork before closing.
Keep the car checks separate from approval
A loan approval does not certify the car's condition or the seller's ownership story. The NYC consumer-agency used-car guidance tells buyers to get a history report and an independent mechanic, and the federal Buyers Guide rule describes dealer disclosures rather than any credit-union CARFAX mandate. Private sales follow a different disclosure setting. Use our inspection checklist to define the mechanical work before you release funds.
Before you authorize funding
Ask APG to confirm which rate applies to your car's age and seller type, and whether any report is needed. So, ask for a dated written approval tied to the actual VIN, amount financed and term. Keep the rate quote, collateral answer, purchase agreement and any payoff instructions together. The CFPB auto-loan resources explain how to shop and compare offers; they do not set this lender's underwriting policy.
We are a licensed CARFAX and AutoCheck reseller, not affiliated with CARFAX, AutoCheck or Experian. Guest reports have been about $5.50, member reports about $4.50 and a two-report bundle about $6.75; confirm the price at checkout because it can change. A report can miss unreported work, so keep the inspection appointment even when the history looks quiet.
