Buying a Cadillac Certified Pre-Owned car in October 2026 gets you a 172-point inspection, a 1-year/unlimited-mile limited warranty that starts after the original 4-year/50,000-mile coverage ends, and roadside help for as long as that warranty lasts. Cadillac's page doesn't publish an age or mileage cutoff, a return or exchange policy, or a promise that you get the history report yourself. Those are the three things to pin down at the dealer.
I read Cadillac's Certified Pre-Owned page and GM's March 2026 news release on Saturday night, October 17, 2026. That release is why this checklist exists: since June 2, Chevrolet, Buick and GMC dealers certify through CarBravo, but GM says Cadillac keeps its own separate program. So the rules in our CarBravo checklist don't carry over to a Cadillac store, even though it's all GM.
1. Confirm it's Cadillac certified, at a Cadillac dealer
Cadillac's CPO page says a certified car can only be found at a Cadillac dealer. A Cadillac on a Chevy lot might be sold as CarBravo certified, which is a different warranty, and a Cadillac on an independent lot with a "certified" sticker is whatever that lot says it is. Ask which program, and get the program name on the buyer's order.
2. Do the warranty math for this exact car
The page says the CPO limited warranty kicks in when the original 4-year/50,000-mile limited warranty expires, by time or mileage, and gives you "up to 5 years of coverage." Up to is doing work there. A three-year-old car with 30,000 miles gets the rest of the factory coverage plus a year. A car that already passed 50,000 miles is the case the page doesn't spell out, so ask when the CPO year starts and get the start date in writing. GM's March 3, 2026 release shows how different the cousins are: CarBravo's main tier pays 12 months/12,000 miles after the factory warranty, while Cadillac's year has no mileage cap.
3. Ask what the 172 points covered
Cadillac lists under-hood and under-vehicle inspections, exterior and interior checks, a road test, all scheduled maintenance performed, and a review of the vehicle history report. Ask for the completed checklist with the technician's notes. Brake pad depth, tire dates and what was replaced to pass are the lines I'd read first. A "passed" checkbox tells you very little.
4. Run the recalls yourself
The page says GM requires dealers to finish all safety recalls before a certified car is listed or sold, then admits "the best processes can break down" and points you to recalls.gm.com. Do it. Our Cadillac recall check by VIN post walks through it, and the Cadillac VIN decoder guide helps you match the build to the ad.
5. Get the history report in your hands
Cadillac says the inspection includes a vehicle history report review. It doesn't say you get a copy, which is different from CarBravo's free CARFAX promise. Ask for it, and pull your own anyway, because certification doesn't mean a car was never in a crash. Our CPO cars still need a CARFAX post covers why. Also search the VIN in NMVTIS for title brands.
6. Read the financing offer dates
When I checked, the page advertised 4.9% APR for 60 months on select certified LYRIQ and OPTIQ models through Cadillac Financial for well-qualified buyers, excluding 2026 and 2027 models, with delivery by January 4, 2027. Older offer blocks with 2023 and March 2026 deadlines were still on the same page, which tells you to confirm any rate with the dealer before you rely on it. If you're looking at the EV, read our used Cadillac LYRIQ guide before you commit to a rate.
7. Ask about returns before you sign
I found nothing on the Cadillac page about an exchange or return window. CarBravo advertises a 10-day/500-mile exchange; Cadillac doesn't mention one. Ask the dealer, and if there is a policy, get it on paper. Assume you're keeping the car once you drive away.
8. Price the extras separately
Courtesy transportation during warranty repairs, a three-month SiriusXM trial and My Cadillac Rewards points come with certification. Anything else on the menu, like a service contract or wheel coverage, is a separate purchase. Ask for the car's price with and without each one.
CarVins is a licensed CARFAX and AutoCheck reseller, not affiliated with CARFAX, AutoCheck, Experian, Cadillac or GM. Around mid October 2026, a guest report costs about $5.50, a member report about $4.50, and both together roughly $6.75, while buying direct at retail tends to run $39.99 to $44.99. Check the checkout screen for the current figure.
