Land Rover Certified Pre-Owned Checklist (Oct 2026)

Land Rover's U.S. Approved Certified Pre-Owned program, as of Oct 19, 2026, takes vehicles under 5 years old with under 60,000 miles, puts them through a 165-point inspection, includes a vehicle history report, and adds a limited warranty of either 1 year with unlimited miles or 2 years/100,000 miles. Coverage has no deductible, comes with roadside assistance and trip interruption benefits, and transfers if you sell. Before you sign, get in writing which of the two warranties your vehicle carries and when it starts, because Land Rover's own page gives two different answers on the start date.

I read Land Rover USA's certified pre-owned page, its CPO offers page and its warranty page on Monday morning, October 19, 2026. If you've read our Jaguar certified pre-owned checklist, a lot of this will look familiar, because both brands sit under Jaguar Land Rover North America and run near-identical programs. The differences are below.

Eligibility: age and miles

The CPO page says vehicles are "hand-selected from the previous five model years," and its prerequisites panel lists under 60,000 miles and under 5 years old. That mileage number is the clearest difference from Jaguar, which doesn't publish a mileage cap at all. "Previous five model years" and "less than 5 years old" can disagree on a car registered late in its model year, so check the in-service date on the warranty paperwork rather than the model year on the window sticker.

The 165-point inspection

Land Rover says every CPO vehicle has to pass all 165 points, covering paintwork, interior, a full engine preparation, a road test and a final inspection before a Land Rover technician signs it off. Ask to see the completed checklist for the vehicle, with the technician's sign-off and the date. A blank brochure version proves nothing. If the retailer won't show you the filled-in sheet, that tells you something too.

The warranty, and the start-date problem

Land Rover's warranty page says new vehicles get a New Vehicle Limited Warranty of 4 years or 50,000 miles. The CPO limited warranty then adds one of two plans: 1 year/unlimited miles, or 2 years/100,000 miles, whichever comes first. The page says repairs use genuine parts and Land Rover-trained technicians, with no deductible, and the coverage is fully transferable.

Now the confusing part. One line on the CPO page says coverage "begins on the vehicle's original in-service date and zero miles." The disclaimer at the bottom says the CPO warranty and roadside benefits begin when the new-vehicle warranty expires, and that for vehicles certified between 48 and 60 months from the original in-service date with the one-year unlimited plan, coverage starts from the contracted sale date instead. It also says select vehicles may have different terms. My read is that the 100,000 miles counts from zero on the odometer and the clock starts after the factory warranty, but that's my read, and you shouldn't buy an expensive SUV on my guess. Ask for the warranty contract and look for the end date and end mileage printed on it.

Roadside, trip interruption and the history report

Roadside assistance runs for the whole CPO warranty period, 24 hours a day, covering breakdowns, accidents, flat tires and lockouts, with towing to the nearest Land Rover retailer. Trip interruption pays back things like lodging and transportation if a warrantable defect strands you. The page says you're entitled to a vehicle history report covering accident damage and mileage accuracy, but it doesn't name the provider. Our post on why certified cars still need a CARFAX explains why I'd pull my own anyway: the retailer chooses which report to show you and when it was run.

October 2026 financing offer

The offers page lists 3.99% APR for 12 to 36 months on CPO Discovery and Defender models from 2020-2025 and on Range Rover Velar, Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport from 2020-2026, for well-qualified buyers through the approved lender. The program runs Oct. 1 through Nov. 2, 2026. Land Rover's example works out to $29.52 a month per $1,000 at 36 months and $85.15 at 12 months. Three years is a short loan on an expensive vehicle, so run the payment before you fall for the rate.

Checklist before you sign

  • Which warranty plan: 1 year/unlimited or 2 years/100,000? Get it on the contract.
  • The printed start and end date and end mileage of the CPO coverage.
  • The completed 165-point sheet with the technician's sign-off.
  • Open recalls, checked through our Land Rover recall check by VIN.
  • The VIN decoded on NHTSA vPIC and matched to the model, engine and year; our Land Rover VIN decoder guide helps.
  • A title brand search on NMVTIS and a history report you ordered yourself.

For model-specific weak spots, our used Land Rover Defender buying guide is the place to start. In mid October 2026 one report was about $5.50 as a guest and about $4.50 for members, or about $6.75 for both reports, against roughly $39.99 to $44.99 retail. Checkout has the final say on price.
