Hummer Recall Check by VIN: H2, H3, H3T, and Hummer EV

To check Hummer recalls by VIN, put the 17-digit VIN into NHTSA's recall lookup and then call a GM dealer, since General Motors still owns the recalls on the classic H2 and H3 even though the Hummer brand shut down in 2010. Most of this page is about those used 2003-2010 trucks, which is what you will mostly find for sale. The newer GMC Hummer EV is a different vehicle sold by GMC, and we cover its short recall list near the end. In mid October 2026, the item we would clear first on an H3 is 15V-421, a blower motor connector that can overheat.

GM began winding Hummer down after a sale to China's Sichuan Tengzhong fell apart in February 2010, and CNBC's AP report noted GM said it would keep honoring Hummer warranties. Those warranties are long gone, but recall obligations stay with GM. The remedy notes still list a Hummer customer service number, 1-800-732-5493. When we pulled data from NHTSA on October 13, 2026, the classic Hummer file was short, about 15 campaigns for the H2 and H3, and many were shared with Chevrolet and GMC trucks.

Which Hummer do you have

The H2 was sold for the 2003-2009 model years, and Car and Driver describes it as built on GM's previous generation of full-size SUVs, with an SUT pickup version that has a short bed and a Midgate. The H3 ran 2006-2010, and Car and Driver's H3 page says it came from GM's small pickups, with a five-cylinder engine or a V8 in the Alpha, plus the H3T pickup for 2009-2010. The H1 was a separate AM General product and has its own, much older file. Decode the VIN before you trust a listing. A badge or a listing title is not proof of which engine or body style you are paying for.

Running the VIN

Read the VIN off the dash and the door jamb and make sure both match the title. Our guide on checking recalls by VIN on NHTSA explains each status. Then call a Chevrolet or GMC service desk with the VIN. Because the H2 and H3 share parts with GM trucks, many Hummer campaigns are joint filings, and our GMC recall check by VIN guide covers how GM lists them. If a dealer says they do not service Hummers, ask for the warranty or recall advisor. The campaign is still in GM's system.

H3 and H3T recalls

NHTSA recall 15V-421 covers about 164,993 2006-2010 H3 and 2009-2010 H3T trucks whose blower motor speed connector module for the heating and air conditioning can overheat. Dealers replace part of the blower motor connector and its wiring. GM's filing says an overheating module can increase the risk of a fire, so treat an open 15V-421 as a must-fix before the truck sits in your garage. 10V-179 covers about 162,129 2006-2010 H3s whose hood louver clip tabs can fracture, so the louver rattles and can come off. The fix was adhesive to hold it in place. A 2006 H3 also shows up in 06V-417, a joint GM recall for passenger air bag sensing on cars that had cloth seats swapped for aftermarket leather.

H2 and H2 SUT recalls

The H2 list is mostly shared GM truck campaigns. 08V-441 covers about 857,735 GM vehicles, including 2006-2008 H2s, with a heated washer fluid system whose circuit board can short and overheat a ground wire. GM first added a fuse, then 10V-240 told dealers to disable and remove the module entirely. If an H2 still has a working heated washer, ask why. 08V-456 covers 13,358 2003 H2s whose wiper motor module can take on water and quit. 05V-043 covers about 77,411 trucks and SUVs, including 2004-2005 H2s, whose Hydro-Boost brake accumulator can crack and separate. And 07V-373 covers 363 trucks where ABS wheel speed sensor wires may have been reversed.

If the H2 you are looking at has a lift kit, big tires, or aftermarket steering parts, know that some of those parts have their own equipment recalls, like the 06E-010 aftermarket pitman arm listed against 2003-2006 H2s. A VIN check cannot see what a previous owner bolted on, so get the truck on a lift.

GMC Hummer EV: short but real list

The Hummer name came back as the GMC Hummer EV pickup for 2022 and an SUV for 2024. Car and Driver lists 570 hp for the dual-motor truck and 1,000 hp for the tri-motor, with a 311-mile EPA estimate on the standard pack. Its recall file is small. 22V-771 covers 797 2022 BrightDrop EV600 and 2022-2023 Hummer EV pickups whose battery pack enclosure may not be sealed and can let water in. 26V-494 is a 2026 filing covering 11 GM EVs, including 2022 Hummer EV pickups, with a battery whose internal module part may not be secured, and dealers replace the battery. 23V-786 covers 115 trucks with loose front belt buckle bolts, and 24V-320 covers 10 vehicles, including 2024 Hummer EV SUVs, with rear motor wiring that can short. For battery history on any used EV, read our used EV battery recalls guide.

History and price

A Hummer listed as "garage kept" can still have a salvage or flood past. A recall check will not show flood, salvage, or a rebuilt frame, so pull the history. As of mid October 2026, a CARFAX report through us is about $5.50 as a guest or $4.50 as a member, and a CARFAX plus AutoCheck bundle about $6.75, versus roughly $39.99 to $44.99 retail.
