Isuzu Recall Check by VIN: Rodeo, Ascender, i-Series

Yes, you can still check Isuzu passenger-vehicle recalls by VIN on NHTSA, and open campaigns are still handled by Isuzu's US service network or by GM dealers when the truck was built on a GM platform. On a used Rodeo, Trooper, Axiom, Ascender, i-Series pickup, or VehiCROSS in mid October 2026, clear the salt-belt rear-suspension rust recalls and the Ascender / i-Series GM-shared electrical campaigns before you call the deal done.

Isuzu stopped selling new light vehicles in the United States on January 31, 2009 after GM ended Ascender and i-Series production. Autoweek reported the one-year notice in January 2008, and the Houston Chronicle quoted Isuzu saying parts and service would stay open while new-vehicle sales stopped. That exit is separate from Isuzu's commercial truck business (NPR and related cabovers), which never left. So a VIN that belongs to a 2004 Rodeo and a VIN that belongs to a 2020 NPR are different companies' problems in practice.

How the VIN check works on an orphan SUV

Take the VIN off the dash and the door jamb, match it to the title, and run it on NHTSA. Our guide to checking recalls by VIN on NHTSA covers incomplete and remedy statuses. Decode the same number on NHTSA vPIC if you need to confirm a true Isuzu build versus a GM-built Ascender / i-Series. Our Isuzu VIN decoder walks through those plant and series codes. For Ascender and i-Series campaigns filed by GM, a Chevrolet or GMC service desk often has the completion record; for Rodeo and Axiom rust campaigns filed by Isuzu Manufacturing Services of America, call an Isuzu service point that still supports light trucks.

Rodeo and Axiom: rear suspension rust

NHTSA recall 13V-547 covers about 8,816 2003-2004 Rodeo and Axiom vehicles, plus 2003 Rodeo Sport, originally sold or registered in salt-belt states, where severe corrosion can hit rear suspension mounting brackets. Isuzu filed it years after the cars left production. An earlier related campaign, 10V-436, covers about 149,992 1998-2002 Rodeo (and Honda Passport) vehicles in the same rust states for rear suspension corrosion. If you are shopping a northern Rodeo, put the truck on a lift and look at those mounts yourself even when the VIN comes back clean, because rust does not wait for a campaign letter.

Older Rodeo and Axiom files also include fuel-pump pin-hole corrosion from silicon-contaminated fuel (05V-466) and passenger air bag module problems from the early 2000s. Those are usually long closed, but run the VIN anyway. Trooper and VehiCROSS shoppers mostly see older engine and emissions campaigns; parts for those can be scarce, so an open line may mean a long wait even when the remedy is still on the books.

Ascender and i-Series: GM-built twins

The Ascender is a TrailBlazer / Envoy twin, and the i-280, i-290, i-350, and i-370 pickups are Colorado / Canyon twins. That is why later GM filings list Isuzu. 12V-406 covers about 278,174 vehicles in salt-belt states, including 2006-2007 Ascenders, for corrosion that can short the driver's door module so windows and locks misbehave or, in a worst case, start a fire. Follow-ons 13V-248 and 14V-404 hit the same door-module water path. Headlamp driver module campaign 15V-519 also lists 2006-2008 Ascenders. Our Pontiac recall check covers the same GMT360 electrical family on the 9-7X side.

09V-310 covers about 185,903 Colorado, Canyon, and Isuzu i-Series trucks in hot-weather states for a brake-lamp switch that can stick so the lamps stay on or go dark. Dealers inspect and replace the switch. Look, an i-350 with that recall still open is a pain at night and a ticket magnet by day, and the fix is free when parts are in stock.

Title, flood, and price

A clean recall screen will not show a salvage brand, flood history, or a rolled odometer, and cheap Rodeos still show up on marketplace ads with vague titles. Pull the history before you wire money, and read it with our guide on how to read a CARFAX report. As of mid October 2026, a CARFAX report through us is about $5.50 as a guest or $4.50 as a member, and a CARFAX plus AutoCheck bundle about $6.75, versus roughly $39.99 to $44.99 retail. Confirm at checkout. We are a licensed reseller, not affiliated with CARFAX, AutoCheck, or Experian, and we will not claim a full official report is free.
