To check Mitsubishi recalls by VIN, run the 17-digit VIN on NHTSA's recall lookup and have a Mitsubishi dealer print the open campaigns with MMNA's SR codes. For a 2022-and-later Outlander or Outlander PHEV in mid October 2026, the backup camera software recalls are the first thing to clear. For older Outlanders, look hard at the liftgate gas spring campaign, and if the car ever lived in a salt state, the corrosion recalls on older Outlander Sport models.
Mitsubishi Motors North America files its own recalls, and its internal numbers follow a tidy SR-year-sequence pattern, like SR-26-002. That makes printouts easy to match against NHTSA. When we pulled the lineup from NHTSA on October 13, 2026, the Outlander family had most of the recent activity, the Eclipse Cross had almost nothing past 2019, and the Mirage list was short and old. Short lists are not a free pass, though. One open air bag line on a cheap Mirage is still an open air bag line.
How to run the VIN
Check that the VIN on the dash, the door jamb, and the title all match. Then follow our steps for checking recalls by VIN on NHTSA, which explain incomplete, completed, and remedy-not-yet-available lines. Our Mitsubishi VIN decoder helps confirm if you are looking at an Outlander, Outlander PHEV, or Outlander Sport, which matters a lot here because those three names cover very different cars. Ask the dealer for a printout, and if the seller says the recall work was done at a different dealer, it should still show as completed on the VIN.
Outlander and Outlander PHEV: camera software, twice
The 2022 Outlander was a new generation, and Car and Driver notes it is mechanically identical to the Nissan Rogue, which is why its infotainment is called the Alliance system, or A-IVI. That system is behind most of the recent recalls. 25V-369 covers about 198,940 2022-2024 Outlander and 2023-2025 Outlander PHEV vehicles whose rearview image may freeze or not appear. It replaces and expands an earlier campaign, 23V-345, and the filing says cars repaired under 23V-345 need the new remedy too. So a "camera recall done" receipt from 2023 does not settle it.
Then came 26V-549, about 67,146 2025-2026 Outlander and 2026 Outlander PHEV vehicles with the same symptom from improper software programming. Dealers update the A-IVI software, and owner letters were expected around September 24, 2026, which means plenty of nearly new Outlanders on lots right now may still show this one open. On the first-year 2022 Outlander, 22V-027 also covers about 16,616 vehicles whose fuel pump may fail, and dealers replace it.
Older Outlanders: the liftgate that can fall
25V-507 started in 2025 with about 121,529 2014-2020 Outlander and 2018-2022 Outlander PHEV vehicles sold or registered in a list of salt-belt states. The liftgate gas spring cylinders may corrode, lose pressure, rupture, or let the liftgate drop. Then 26V-252 expanded it in April 2026 to about 108,046 more vehicles, and owner letters went out June 17, 2026. Dealers replace both gas springs. If the hatch on a test drive drifts down on its own, you already know the answer, but run the VIN anyway because the campaign covers cars that have not failed yet.
Outlander Sport, Eclipse Cross and Mirage
For 2019-2022 Outlander Sport models with a CVT and a mechanical key, 22V-563 covers about 76,508 vehicles whose CVT software may drop the gear ratio at high speed and stall the engine. Older Outlander Sport models from 2011-2016, plus 2008-2013 Outlanders, are in 20V-279 if they were sold or ever registered in listed salt states, because the front cross member can corrode enough for the lower control arms to detach. That one is the scary entry on a cheap high-mileage car from the Midwest. The 2018-2019 Eclipse Cross shows up in 18V-620, a forward collision mitigation software fix for braking that held on too long.
The Mirage, which Car and Driver describes as a 78-hp three-cylinder hatchback, has 17V-686 on 2014-2018 hatchbacks and 19V-330 on 2017-2018 Mirage G4 sedans. In both, the air bag control unit's internal sensor could read rough-road or flat-tire vibration as a fault and disable the air bags. Dealers reprogram the unit. It is tempting to skip the check on a cheap commuter car. Please do not.
After the recalls, the history
A recall lookup will not show a salvage auction, a branded title, or a rollback. CARFAX says its reports cover title brands, odometer readings, ownership, and reported accidents, and our guide on how to read a CARFAX report walks through it. Consumer Reports' Outlander page is a good next stop for owner data. As of mid October 2026 we sell CARFAX reports for about $5.50 as a guest or $4.50 as a member, and a CARFAX plus AutoCheck bundle for about $6.75, versus roughly $39.99 to $44.99 retail. Confirm at checkout since prices change. We are a licensed CARFAX and AutoCheck reseller, not affiliated with CARFAX, AutoCheck, or Experian.
