Numerica Credit Union does not list a CARFAX or AutoCheck report as a requirement on its public rates page, so the history check is yours to run. When I read numericacu.com/rates on Nov. 5, 2026, the auto loans table showed a fixed APR of 4.99% to 15.24% for loan lengths up to 84 months, marked "Rates accurate as of 10/01/2026," with a required $50 document preparation fee. The low end includes discounts, so most borrowers will land somewhere above it.
What Numerica's rate page says
The footnote under Numerica's auto table explains most of the gap between the headline and your quote. As of Nov. 5, 2026 it listed:
- Auto loans up to 84 months at 4.99% to 15.24% APR, rates accurate as of 10/01/2026.
- Financing subject to membership, credit approval and other underwriting criteria; not every applicant will qualify.
- A $50 document preparation fee required.
- As low as 0% down payment on approved credit.
- APR reflecting discounts up to 0.50%: 0.25% for automatic payment from a Numerica checking account and 0.25% for a Numerica Visa credit card or another Numerica loan.
I did not find language making a CARFAX mandatory to close a loan. Not all underwriting is published, so ask your loan officer what they need for your VIN.
Why you should still pull a report
With 0% down available and terms up to 84 months, you can start a loan owing more than the car is worth. A hidden salvage brand, flood history or odometer problem makes that gap worse, because the car resells for less and may be harder to insure. Run the VIN at NHTSA for recalls, then buy a history report you control. Our NHTSA versus CARFAX and NMVTIS versus CARFAX guides explain what each source catches. If you are thinking about gap coverage on a zero-down loan, read gap insurance on a used car first.
Questions to ask before you sign
- What APR do I get without the autopay and credit card discounts?
- Does the $50 document fee get financed or paid up front?
- Will a salvage, rebuilt or lemon brand change the APR or approval?
- Do you want a CARFAX, AutoCheck or NMVTIS printout for this VIN?
Down payment and term
Zero down and 84 months make the payment small, but they also mean you build equity slowly. If the car is a few years old, it may lose value faster than you pay it down. Putting even a modest amount down, or choosing a shorter term, keeps you closer to break-even if you need to sell or the car is totaled. Our negative equity trade-in guide shows what happens when you roll an underwater loan into the next car.
How to use the range without getting trapped
A ten-point spread between 4.99% and 15.24% means the rate you see on the page tells you little about your own deal. Get a written quote for your credit, term and car before you shop. So if the quote assumes both discounts, decide if you actually want a Numerica checking account and card; if not, add 0.50% back. Honestly, we have seen people compare a discounted headline against another lender's undiscounted rate and pick the wrong loan.
Title brands and Numerica
The public page does not say how Numerica treats salvage, rebuilt, flood or lemon buyback titles. Ask the underwriter before you put down a deposit, and read financing a rebuilt title car for how other lenders handle brands. Look, a car with a brand you did not know about can sink a loan approval after you have already agreed on a price with the seller.
What a lender check does not cover
Even when a lender runs its own title search, it is checking whether the car is acceptable collateral, not whether it is a good car for you. A clean title can still hide an accident that was paid in cash, a missed recall or worn brakes. Run the VIN on the NHTSA lookup for open recalls, compare the odometer on the dash to the readings in your report, and pay a shop for an inspection before you sign. Our pre-purchase inspection cost guide covers what that usually runs. If the seller resists any of these steps, treat that as an answer.
What the report costs
As of early November 2026 a CARFAX bought direct usually costs around $44.99, and AutoCheck sits a little lower. We are a licensed CARFAX and AutoCheck reseller, not affiliated with CARFAX, AutoCheck or Experian. Our guest price has been about $5.50 a report, about $4.50 for members, and about $6.75 for a CARFAX and AutoCheck bundle. Confirm the price at checkout, since it can change.
Pull it before the deposit and keep it with your loan papers.
One more practical point: Numerica's discounts depend on keeping autopay from a Numerica checking account and holding another Numerica product. If you close the account later, ask whether the rate on an existing loan changes, and get the answer in writing.
