Used Honda Passport Buying Guide: 2019-2025 vs 2026

How the Passport changed from the nine-speed 2019-2025 trucks to the 2026 redesign, the drivetrain trap on early years, and the subframe corrosion recall.

Used Honda Passport Buying Guide: 2019-2025 vs 2026

A used Honda Passport is a roomy two-row SUV with a smooth V-6, and the main buying choice is between the 2019-2025 truck on the Pilot platform and the 2026 redesign with a 10-speed and standard all-wheel drive. Whichever you pick, run the VIN first. In mid October 2026 the campaign to look for on a 2019-2023 Passport is 26V-365, a rear subframe corrosion recall for trucks sold in a list of northern and northeastern states, where Honda's final fix was still described as coming in the fall of 2026.

The Passport is basically a shorter Pilot with two rows instead of three. Our used Honda Pilot buying guide covers the three-row version, and our used Honda Ridgeline buying guide covers the pickup that shares much of its hardware. This page is about what changes when you buy the Passport badge, and which shared recalls follow it around.

2019-2025: Pilot-based, nine-speed, FWD or AWD

Consumer Reports says the Passport returned for 2019 as a stubbier version of the Pilot, with the same 3.5-liter V-6 and nine-speed automatic, and measured 21 mpg overall. CR also notes front-wheel drive was offered until 2022, a TrailSport trim arrived with a mild 2022 freshening, and Honda dropped the front-drive models for 2023. Car and Driver's 2019 review lists 280 horsepower and Honda's i-VTM4 all-wheel drive as an option, with drive modes for sand, snow, and mud but no two-speed transfer case.

So check the drivetrain on a 2019-2022 truck before you pay AWD money. A front-drive Passport is a fine family car, but it is not the same SUV, and a drivetrain field on a listing is not proof of anything. CR also found the ride on the older Passport rather stiff and the infotainment slow, which is worth a long test drive on your own roads.

2026 redesign: 10-speed, standard AWD, more off-road

CR marks 2026 as a redesign year and says the new Passport is again based on the Pilot, with a 285-hp V-6, a 10-speed automatic that doesn't always shift smoothly, standard all-wheel drive, and 21 mpg overall in its testing. Car and Driver's 2026 review adds a longer wheelbase, ground clearance of 8.3 inches, a torque-vectoring i-VTM4 system, and an unchanged 5,000-pound max tow rating, with TrailSport trims getting a hitch and seven-pin connector as standard. C&D's TrailSport hit 60 mph in 7.3 seconds, slower than the old model's 5.9.

A used 2026 Passport will usually have low miles, since the redesign is barely a year old. That is good for condition, but a nearly new SUV can still owe a recall, and a demo can carry miles you did not expect. Get the history either way.

Recalls to clear on a 2019-2025 Passport

NHTSA recall 26V-365 covers about 880,514 2016-2022 Pilot, 2017-2023 Ridgeline, 2019-2023 Passport, and 2014-2020 Acura MDX vehicles sold in a list of mostly northern and northeastern states, including Illinois, Michigan, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. The rear subframe may corrode at the suspension mounting points, which can lead to rear suspension failure. Dealers inspect, add a reinforcement kit, and repair or replace parts as needed. Interim letters went out in July 2026. If you are buying a Passport that lived up north, this is the first line we would check.

Steering and brakes have their own items. 24V-184 covers 245 2023 Passport and Ridgeline vehicles whose steering gearbox inner ball joint housing may loosen and detach from the rack, and 23V-458 covers about 124,077 Honda and Acura vehicles, including 2021-2023 Passports, whose brake booster to master cylinder tie rod fastener may be assembled wrong. On 2023-2024 trucks, 24V-900 covers about 205,760 Passport and Pilot vehicles whose fuel filler neck tube and pipe may separate and leak fuel.

Cameras, sensors, and fuel pumps round it out. 23V-431 covers about 1,209,673 Odyssey, Pilot, and 2019-2023 Passport vehicles whose rearview camera image may not appear because of a faulty cable connector. 26V-332 replaces front passenger seat weight sensors on many Hondas, including 2019-2021 Passports, and 23V-858 is the big Honda fuel pump campaign that includes 2019-2022 Passports. A tiny one, 19V-784, covered ten 2019 Pilot and Passport vehicles that may be missing frame welds, where Honda offered to buy back affected vehicles.
