Bugatti Recall Check by VIN: Chiron and Veyron

To check a Bugatti for U.S. recalls, run the 17-digit VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup, then have an authorized Bugatti service center confirm campaign work in their system. Volume is tiny, so campaigns cover dozens or hundreds of cars, not millions -- which is exactly how open recalls get missed when a Chiron or Veyron changes hands between collectors who never lived near a dealer.

We pulled every Bugatti campaign NHTSA's recall data would give us on October 15, 2026, across Veyron, Chiron, Chiron Sport, and Divo model searches. The list is short: nine unique campaign numbers in the years we walked. That small size does not mean "ignore it." A 2008 Veyron on its third owner may never have seen the 2016 jacking-plate letter that went to the first address on file.

How to run a Bugatti VIN

Start with the VIN on the car itself, not the listing PDF. Our Bugatti VIN decoder post explains how to read the string so you can catch a listing that claims a Sport or a Super Sport when the plate says otherwise. Then put the VIN into NHTSA's lookup. If you have not used it before, read our guide to NHTSA recall check by VIN, which covers what incomplete remedies and "remedy not yet available" actually mean for the buyer.

If you want to browse campaigns by model before you have a VIN, the NHTSA recalls API for a 2019 Chiron and the 2006 Veyron feed are useful starting points. A model-year search is not a VIN clearance. Decode the plate with NHTSA's vPIC tool so year and model match the ad.

Veyron campaigns we verified

Campaign 16V166000 covered certain 2006-2010 Veyron, 2010-2012 Grand Sport, and 2011-2013 Super Sport cars whose underbody aluminum jacking reference plates could corrode and detach, becoming a road hazard. Campaign 16V199000 hit a narrow set of 2006-2008 Veyrons for corrosion on the battery positive cable and alternator connection, with a fire risk if the cable overheated. Campaign 16V200000 covered certain 2006-2010 Veyrons and early Grand Sports whose fuel gauge could read high, so the car could stall when the tank ran dry unexpectedly. NHTSA's summaries list older Bugatti customer service at 1-805-557-1050 for those remedies.

Look, those are decade-old campaigns. Most cars should show closed work. Small production numbers are still the ones where paperwork disappears when a car sits in a climate-controlled garage for years.

Chiron and Divo campaigns

Campaign 17V764000 covered certain 2017-2018 Chirons whose front seat recliner brackets may not have been welded properly, so the seat back could move and change the driver's position. Campaign 18V420000 hit certain 2018 Chirons for an incorrectly installed heat shield on the side-airbag gas generator, a FMVSS 214 side-impact compliance issue. Campaign 20V731000 named certain 2020 Chiron and Divo cars whose rear left-hand driveshaft may break and shed parts into traffic.

Campaign 20V732000 is a software / ESC story: certain 2017-2020 Chiron, 2018-2020 Chiron Sport, and 2020-2021 Divo vehicles could leave Electronic Stability Control in a reduced Handling / Sport state after an ignition cycle instead of returning to the full default mode, failing FMVSS 126. Dealers reprogram the control units. Campaign 24V096000 covered certain 2016-2023 Chirons whose seat-belt warning chime may not sound at start if the driver is unbelted, a FMVSS 208 issue fixed with instrument-cluster software. NHTSA lists Bugatti customer service at 1-703-826-7545 on the newer campaigns. There is also 22V198000, which NHTSA describes as a single 2018 Chiron with a loose front frame support screw -- one car, still worth checking if that VIN is yours.

Recalls vs the rest of the history

A clean recall check says nothing about crashes, flood, or shady title moves, and exotic cars get crashed. CARFAX says its reports pull title, accident, odometer, and service records from reporting sources. Through us, a CARFAX report is about $5.50 as a guest or $4.50 as a member, and the CARFAX plus AutoCheck bundle about $6.75, versus roughly $39.99 to $44.99 retail; confirm at checkout. We are a licensed reseller, not affiliated with CARFAX, AutoCheck, or Experian. If you are cross-shopping other low-volume exotics, our McLaren recall check by VIN and Ferrari recall check by VIN cover brands with very different campaign volumes. Ask the selling dealer for written proof of closed campaigns, not a shrug.
