A used Infiniti QX80 worth buying in mid October 2026 is either a late second-gen 5.6-liter V8 (roughly 2018-2024) or a carefully priced 2025-on twin-turbo V6 redesign -- and those trucks feel different even though both tow up to 8,500 pounds when equipped right. The older one is a long-running Patrol / Armada cousin with soft luxury manners; the new one finally updates the cabin and powertrain. Clear fuel-pump and camera recalls by VIN before you chase Autograph stickers.
Infiniti sold this body-on-frame flagship as the QX56 through 2013, then renamed it QX80 for 2014 under the brand's QX naming shift. The second generation ran an unusually long stretch -- MotorTrend notes the prior truck lasted about 14 years before the 2025 reset -- so the used market is full of high-mile family haulers, lease returns, and a few gray-area "fully loaded" ads. Our used Nissan Armada buying guide covers the closer Nissan twin if you want the same bones without Infiniti badge pricing. The mid-size used Infiniti QX60 buying guide is a different animal: unibody crossover, not this full-size truck platform.
Second-gen V8 vs 2025 twin-turbo V6
Car and Driver's 2018 QX80 overview lists a 5.6-liter V8 at 400 hp and 413 lb-ft, paired with a seven-speed automatic and rear- or all-wheel drive. EPA figures sit around 14 city / 20 highway for RWD and 13/19 for AWD, with a max tow rating of 8,500 pounds when properly equipped. Ride bias is soft and serene more than sharp. You buy that gen for three real rows, proven V8 torque, and lower purchase price -- plus thirst, older screens, and the usual body-on-frame size tax in parking garages.
MotorTrend's 2025 QX80 coverage says Infiniti dropped the naturally aspirated V8 for a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 making 450 hp and 516 lb-ft through a nine-speed automatic -- about 50 hp and 103 lb-ft more than the outgoing truck. EPA ratings improve a bit (roughly 16/20 RWD and 16/19 AWD in their write-up). Cargo behind the third row rises to about 22 cubic feet, with more space behind the second row than before. Car and Driver's current QX80 page puts 2026 MSRP roughly from $85,940 to $113,690, timed an Autograph AWD to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds, and still calls out a harsh ride on rough pavement despite air suspension on higher trims. Honestly, if you need three adult-friendly rows and tow duty without six-figure Autograph money, a clean late V8 often makes more sense than stretching for a loaded first-year redesign.
Recalls and VIN checks that matter
We pulled NHTSA recall data for Infiniti QX80 on October 15, 2026. Campaign 14V683000 hit certain 2014-2015 QX80s (and related V8 Infinitis) for fuel pressure sensors that may loosen and leak. Campaign 19V654000 covered many 2018-2019 Nissans and Infinitis, including QX80, for backup-camera image issues. Campaign 21V373000 named certain 2020-2021 QX80 and Armada V8 trucks whose fuel-pump impeller can swell and stall the engine. Campaign 21V599000 hit some 2021 QX80s when a software error blanked the rear-view display. Start with the NHTSA recalls feed for a 2020 QX80, change the year to match the truck, then walk the VIN with our Infiniti recall check by VIN guide.
On a test drive, listen for transfer-case noise, confirm camera and parking-sensor behavior in reverse, and match the dash VIN to the door sticker and title. Decode with NHTSA's vPIC tool or our Infiniti VIN decoder so V8 vs twin-turbo and model year match the ad. We've seen seller PDFs that skip older camera campaigns -- never treat a private PDF as the official record.
History report, flood, and what you pay for data
Full-size Infinitis trade hands after lease returns, snow-belt salt years, and occasional flood markets. A clean title with regular dealer service beats a "fully loaded" truck with unknown lift or entertainment installs. Skip "$1 trial" report sites that roll into a monthly charge.
On cost, a CARFAX through us runs about $5.50 as a guest or $4.50 as a member, and a CARFAX plus AutoCheck bundle is about $6.75, while retail sits around $39.99 to $44.99 as of mid October 2026. Confirm at checkout. We are a licensed reseller, not affiliated with CARFAX, AutoCheck, or Experian. Pull a real CARFAX vehicle history report on the VIN yourself before you wire a deposit.
