To check Buick recalls by VIN, paste the 17-digit VIN into NHTSA's recall lookup and then ask a Buick or GMC dealer for the GM campaign printout. Anything listed as incomplete is a free repair the car is still owed. In mid October 2026, the live item for Encore GX and Envista shoppers is a rearview camera campaign where parts are not ready yet, while most Enclave campaigns cluster around the 2020-2022 model years.
Buick recalls are filed by General Motors, and almost every one of them is shared with a Chevrolet, a GMC, or a Cadillac. That trips people up. The NHTSA number looks like 26V-539, but the dealer printout will show GM's own code, which reads more like A262554900 or N212352140. Both point to the same repair. When we pulled Buick filings from NHTSA on October 13, 2026, the Encore GX and Envista lines had the newest activity, and several Enclave model years came back with nothing at all. That is useful to know, and it is also exactly why you still run the specific VIN instead of trusting a model-year list.
How to run a Buick VIN and read the result
Start by matching the VIN on the lower windshield to the one on the driver door jamb sticker and the title. Our walkthrough on checking recalls by VIN on NHTSA explains what incomplete, completed, and remedy not yet available mean. Decode the car with our Buick VIN decoder first, because an Encore and an Encore GX are different vehicles with different campaigns, and sellers mix them up in listings all the time. Then call a Buick dealer service desk and ask for an open campaign printout by VIN. If a seller hands you a screenshot from a phone and will not let you run the VIN yourself, treat that screenshot as worthless.
Encore GX and Envista: the camera recall still waiting on parts
NHTSA recall 26V-539 covers about 306,511 vehicles, including 2024-2025 Buick Envista and 2024-2026 Buick Encore GX models, plus the Chevrolet Trailblazer and Trax. The rearview camera screen may show a distorted or blank image. Dealers will inspect the camera and replace it if needed. Interim owner letters went out September 17, 2026, and GM says a second letter follows once parts are available, so on a lot of these cars the line will read open with no fix yet. GM's number is A262554900. Honestly, if the camera works on your test drive, that does not close the recall.
Older software campaigns sit behind it. 23V-744 covers about 60,154 2024 Encore GX, Envista, and Chevy Trax vehicles whose virtual cockpit software can blank the instrument display at startup or while driving. The fix is a software update by a dealer or over the air. On 2020-2022 Encore GX models, 21V-440 covers about 135,400 vehicles whose emergency jack can fracture if it is not positioned as the manual describes. Dealers replace the jack. Because these share hardware with Chevrolet models, our Chevy recall check by VIN guide is a fair cross-reference if you are comparing a Trailblazer to an Encore GX.
Enclave: mostly 2020-2022 air bag, fuel pump and frame campaigns
The Enclave pull was the strangest one. NHTSA's model-year data on October 13, 2026 showed no campaigns for 2018 or for 2023-2025, one for 2019, and six for 2020. The 2020 list includes 19V-643, about 3,420 2020 Enclave and Traverse vehicles whose right-hand frame rail in the engine compartment may be cracked. GM's remedy was to inspect and, if necessary, replace the vehicle. That is a rare remedy. Also on 2020 models, 20V-639 covers about 2,781 GM crossovers whose fuel pump jet nozzle may carry a plastic burr that starves the engine of fuel, and dealers replace the fuel pump module.
For 2021-2022 Enclaves, 22V-210 is small, about 89 vehicles, but the defect is ugly: the roof rail air bag connector may have incompatible terminals, so the curtain bags might not deploy. Dealers replace the connector. On 2019-2020 Enclave and Encore models, 20V-668 covers about 194,105 GM vehicles whose start/stop transmission accumulator endcap may be missing bolts. The 2026 Enclave and Envision show up in 26V-114, a GM-wide campaign where the radio was not set to download the electronic owner's manual. Dealers reset the radio. Same platform story here, so our GMC recall check by VIN page lines up with Acadia overlap.
Envision: daytime running light software
On 2021-2023 Envision models, 22V-903 covers about 740,108 GM vehicles whose daytime running lights may not turn off when the headlights are on. Body control module software updates by dealer or over the air, and this campaign expands an earlier one, 22V-827. An over-the-air fix only counts once the car actually takes the update, so ask the dealer to confirm it on their screen.
What a recall check misses, and what a report costs
A clean recall lookup says nothing about a flood title, a rebuilt wreck, or a rolled odometer. CARFAX says its reports include title brands, odometer readings, ownership, and reported accidents, and our guide on how to read a CARFAX report covers what each line means. Consumer Reports' Buick pages help with ownership patterns after the VIN is clean. As of mid October 2026, a CARFAX report through us is about $5.50 as a guest or $4.50 as a member, and a CARFAX plus AutoCheck bundle runs about $6.75, against roughly $39.99 to $44.99 retail. Prices move, so confirm at checkout. We are a licensed CARFAX and AutoCheck reseller and are not affiliated with CARFAX, AutoCheck, or Experian.
