Does Georgia United Credit Union Require a CARFAX for a Car Loan?

Georgia United Credit Union does not list a CARFAX or AutoCheck report as a requirement on its public rates page. It posts vehicle APRs as low as 4.24% on 2024-and-newer cars and 6.14% on 2023-and-older cars, with mileage and age add-ons that can raise the rate. Because those quotes assume the car is worth what the paperwork says, a history check before you sign protects you more than it protects the credit union.

What Georgia United's page says

I read Georgia United Credit Union's rates page on Nov. 5, 2026. Under vehicle loans it listed:

  • 2024 and newer vehicles as low as 4.24% APR.
  • 2023 and older vehicles as low as 6.14% APR.
  • A 1% rate increase for vehicles over 100,000 miles.
  • A 2% rate increase for vehicle models 12 years and older.
  • A 2% rate increase for business auto loans.

The page said rates and terms are based on year of collateral, loan amount and mileage, are subject to change without notice, and depend on creditworthiness. Membership eligibility restrictions apply, and all loans are subject to credit approval.

Does Georgia United require a CARFAX?

Nothing on the rates page I read required a CARFAX, AutoCheck or other vehicle history report as a condition of the loan. That silence is common. Credit unions price the member and the collateral. They do not always publish every underwriting step on a marketing page. Ask your loan officer what documents they want for a used car, including any third-party history report, appraisal or inspection.

Why you still want a history report

A low APR on a flooded or title-washed car is still a bad deal. Pull a report so you can see accidents, title brands, odometer gaps and prior owners before the funding date. Our how to read a CARFAX guide and NMVTIS versus CARFAX comparison show what each source catches. If the car carries a brand, read credit union branded title checklist before you apply.

Dealer car or private sale

Dealer purchases and private-party purchases can follow different funding paths even at the same credit union. Ask whether Georgia United will pay a private seller directly, whether it needs a bill of sale and a lien payoff letter, and whether it will inspect the car. Private sales are where thin paperwork and title washing show up most often.

How to check the car yourself before you sign

  • Match the VIN on the dash, door jamb and title.
  • Run NHTSA recalls and a vehicle history report on that VIN.
  • Check NMVTIS for brands the seller "forgot."
  • Pay for a pre-purchase inspection if the car is older or high-mile; see pre-purchase inspection cost.

Questions to ask Georgia United

  • Do you require a vehicle history report for used cars, and who orders it?
  • What APR applies after mileage and age add-ons on this VIN?
  • What LTV will you allow on this year and mileage?
  • Will you fund a private-party purchase, and what documents do you need?

Rate math that bites buyers

A 4.24% quote on a 2024 car is not the same product as a 6.14% quote on a 2018 car that also trips the mileage bump. Add one percent for over 100,000 miles and two percent for a 12-year-old model, and the payment you sketched on a napkin is gone. Ask the loan officer to write the exact APR, term and LTV on the same sheet as the VIN.

Membership and collateral basics

Georgia United is a credit union, so you need to be eligible to join before the loan funds. Ask how membership works for your county or employer group, what the share deposit costs and how long membership must be open before an auto loan can close. Collateral rules still matter after you join. A clean rate quote on a car with a washed title is not a win.

Bring the VIN, the purchase price, the down payment plan and any trade payoff to the rate conversation. Vague "about this much" shopping is how buyers get surprised by mileage add-ons on older cars.

Write down the posted 4.24% and 6.14% figures, then ask the loan officer to apply the mileage and age add-ons to the exact car. A 2012 with 110,000 miles is not a brochure example, and the payment should reflect that before you leave a deposit.

What the report costs

As of early November 2026 a CARFAX bought direct usually costs around $44.99, and AutoCheck sits a little lower. We are a licensed CARFAX and AutoCheck reseller, not affiliated with CARFAX, AutoCheck or Experian. Our guest price has been about $5.50 a report, about $4.50 for members, and about $6.75 for a CARFAX and AutoCheck bundle. Confirm the price at checkout, since it can change.
