A U.S.-market Lamborghini VIN usually starts with ZHW for Sant'Agata-built cars, or ZPB for the Urus SUV. In our October 14, 2026 vPIC runs, Gallardo patterns starting ZHWGU decoded to Sant'Agata Bolognese with 5.0- or 5.2-liter V10 engines, Huracan patterns starting ZHWUF and ZHWUB came back as Sant'Agata coupes with the DGF 5.2-liter V10 around 630 hp, and Urus patterns starting ZPBUA, ZPBUB and ZPBUC listed Sant'Agata SUVs with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. Position 10 is the year and position 11 is the plant (L in our samples). Supercar and SUV history quirks are not the same, so decode the VIN before you treat an Urus like a Huracan on paperwork.
We built those samples from real complaint prefixes and ran them through NHTSA's free vPIC decoder. If the 17 positions still feel opaque, start with how to decode a VIN. Lamborghini shares a VW Group neighborhood with Audi, so our Audi VIN decoder is a useful cross-check for related plants and eras.
Gallardo: ZHW from Sant'Agata
Gallardo is the older V10 coupe and roadster. Our 2004 pattern ZHWGU11S decoded to Sant'Agata Bolognese, Bologna, with a 5.2-liter ten, while 2006 coupe and roadster patterns ZHWGU12N and ZHWGU22T came back with the 07L1 5.0-liter V10. A 2008 roadster pattern ZHWGU22T still pointed to Sant'Agata in Emilia-Romagna. So a title that says Lamborghini and a plant that says Italy is normal for a Gallardo, not a mismatch.
Huracan and Urus patterns
Huracan is the later mid-engine car. A 2020 EVO Coupe pattern ZHWUF4ZF decoded clean to Sant'Agata with the DGF 5.2-liter V10 at 631 hp, and a 2023 Tecnica pattern ZHWUB6ZF listed the same plant and engine family around 630 hp. Urus is the SUV, and it uses WMI ZPB. Our 2022 pattern ZPBUA1ZL decoded to a Sant'Agata multipurpose vehicle with the DHU 4.0-liter V8 at 641 hp, a 2023 Urus S pattern ZPBUB3ZL listed the DWN 4.0-liter at 657 hp, and a 2024 Performante pattern ZPBUC3ZL decoded clean with the same DWN engine. Look, if a seller calls every Lamborghini a "ZHW car" and the VIN starts ZPB, you are looking at an Urus, not a Huracan.
Year and plant codes
Position 9 is the check digit defined in 49 CFR 565.15. Year codes in our samples included 4 for 2004, 6 for 2006, 8 for 2008, L for 2020, N for 2022, P for 2023 and R for 2024. Plant code L pointed to Sant'Agata. Match the dash plate to the door sticker by hand before you talk wire-transfer money.
Recalls to clear by VIN
On Gallardos, 12V-430 covers high-pressure steering pipes that can leak near the exhaust, 13V-471 covers carbon-ceramic brake disc issues on 2007-2009 cars, and 18V-833 covers ECU software that can erase adaptive values. On Huracans, 21V-466 covers cold-weather rearview camera blanking, and 22V-081 covers headlight adjustment caps. On Urus trucks, 20V-713 covers fuel line quick connectors that can fail in heat, 21V-336 covers cylinder bore cracks on certain 2021 cars, and 24V-348 covers hood latch strikers on Performante and S models. Run the VIN with our NHTSA recall check by VIN walkthrough.
Title risk on supercars and SUVs
A recall screen will not show a flood title, an odometer rollback or a prior track weekend. We've seen seller printouts with no VIN on the page treated like a history report, and that is a trap when the asking price already has six digits. CARFAX says its reports draw on title, odometer, ownership and accident records. As of mid October 2026, a CARFAX report through us runs about $5.50 as a guest or about $4.50 as a member, and a CARFAX plus AutoCheck bundle is about $6.75, versus roughly $39.99 to $44.99 at retail. Confirm at checkout. We are a licensed CARFAX and AutoCheck reseller, not affiliated with CARFAX, AutoCheck, or Experian.
What a decode will not show
vPIC will not tell you if the car flooded, if the miles jumped, or if a prior owner tracked a Huracan hard. Honestly, on an Urus the ownership lines matter too, because many of these SUVs see daily miles that a Gallardo never did. Clear open campaigns first, then pull a real report before you wire a deposit.
