Michigan Educational CU Auto Loan: Rates and CARFAX

Michigan Educational Credit Union lists dated auto loan APRs on its auto loans page, but the page does not promise a free CARFAX or AutoCheck report. Ask what the lender checks on the vehicle, then run your own title and history checks before you commit.

Read the dated automobile table

The auto loans page checked November 5, 2026 shows an effective date of 11/01/2026 for 2027-2002 automobiles with 100% financing language. As-low-as APRs list 4.49% up to 36 months, 4.99% for 48 months, 5.24% for 60 months, 5.49% for 72 months and 5.74% for 84 months.

Use the payment example carefully

The same page gives a sample of a $20,000 loan with a 72-month term at 5.49% APR and a monthly payment of $326.66. That figure is an illustration, not your quote. Ask for the APR, finance charge and total of payments on the car you intend to buy.

Read the classic and discount footnotes

Classic cars 25 years and older list as low as 8.00% APR for up to 48 months with a $10,000 minimum. A footnote describes a 0.25% discount for recent college or trade-school graduates and for active or retired military members, and says published rates can include a 0.25% direct-deposit discount. Ask which adjustments apply to you.

Ask precisely what the history check includes

A lender can review a title or valuation without buying the same consumer report you would buy yourself. Ask whether CARFAX, AutoCheck or another source is used, whether a copy is available to you, and who pays. The public rate page does not describe report access, so that answer stays unconfirmed until the Michigan Educational Credit Union loan officer handling your application gives it. Do not attribute a dealer promise to the credit union.

Make the approval specific to the title

Ask about salvage, rebuilt, flood, manufacturer-buyback and odometer brands before committing to a vehicle. An advertised rate does not establish branded-title eligibility. Supply the VIN, model year, mileage, asking price and title status for a collateral decision. Our lien-release guide explains why a paid-off balance and an acceptable title transfer are separate steps.

Compare the financing without losing the car checks

The CFPB auto-loan resources explain how to compare financing and read disclosures, and the federal Truth in Lending disclosure rules are summarized at Cornell LII. Ask for the APR, finance charge and total of payments, including any optional products. Then compare the inspection findings with the history report. Our odometer discrepancy explainer helps when a mileage entry conflicts with the advert.

Order evidence before releasing money

Use the identifier photographed on the car rather than copying a seller message. A fake PDF can make a private sale look safer than it is. Check title and salvage data through the NMVTIS program and read what service entries can establish before interpreting missing records. Look, approval of your income cannot certify a vehicle the lender has never inspected.

We are a licensed CARFAX and AutoCheck reseller, not affiliated with CARFAX, AutoCheck or Experian. Advertised pricing has recently been about $5.50 guest, $4.50 member and $6.75 for a bundle. Confirm price, report availability and the included products at checkout. A report purchase does not reserve a loan rate, approve collateral or replace your independent inspection.

Identity and name check

Michigan Educational Credit Union identifies itself as Michigan Educational CU on its site. Michigan Educational and MECU in this Michigan educational sense do not match a lender already covered here; confirm membership eligibility first.

Keep the dated rate page and the written quote together so you can show which terms applied when you applied.

Keep the vehicle and borrower decisions together

Send the loan officer the sale price, mileage and model year, and ask whether the car prices under the standard automobile table or the classic-car row. Ask how long the approval stays valid. For a private sale, ask who receives the funds and how any existing lienholder is paid. A preliminary approval is usually conditional on the collateral, so keep the approval letter with the title copy and the inspection report.

Line up timing before the seller deadline

Membership, approval and funding can each take time, and a private seller may not wait. Ask how long each step usually takes and whether funds can go directly to the seller or lienholder. If the inspection or history report raises a question, keep the approval open rather than signing a purchase agreement just to hold the car.
