SouthState Bank Auto Loan CARFAX Policy (Oct 2026)

SouthState posts dated sample new and used APRs and never mentions CARFAX on its Auto Loans page. Here is what the page showed and what to ask.

SouthState Bank Auto Loan CARFAX Policy (Oct 2026)

SouthState Bank will finance new and used cars through its consumer Auto Loans page, and as of Oct 18, 2026 that page still posted sample APRs dated accurate as of 02/02/2026. It does not mention CARFAX, AutoCheck or any free vehicle history report. So the bank prices the loan; you still have to check the car yourself before you lock the rate.

On Sunday evening, October 18, 2026, I read SouthState's Auto Loans page end to end. I searched the text for CARFAX, AutoCheck, vehicle history, salvage and rebuilt. None of those words appeared. I did not apply for a loan or call a banker, so a local officer may add rules the website never shows.

What the page posted as of Oct 18, 2026

  • Sample new-car rate: 5.23% APR for 72 months on an example $42,500 loan ($686.61 monthly), labeled accurate as of 02/02/2026.
  • Another new-car sample: 5.70% APR for 84 months on an example $50,000 loan ($721.11 monthly), same as-of date.
  • Sample used-car rate: 6.05% APR for 72 months on an example $25,000 loan ($412.42 monthly), for eligible 2023-2026 model years, same as-of date.
  • Those APRs include a one-time $150 origination fee and a 0.65% rate discount for automatic payment from a SouthState checking account.
  • Loan amounts on the fine print run from $4,000 to $150,000, and every loan is subject to credit approval. Actual APR varies with credit, amount, term and vehicle.

SouthState markets same-day funding and online applications. It does not post a maximum vehicle age beyond the used-rate example years, a mileage cap, or a salvage-title ban on that page. Ask before you assume.

Also decide up front if the autopay discount is worth opening or keeping a SouthState checking account. The 0.65% break is baked into the sample APRs I quoted. Lose the draft and your rate math changes. Same for the $150 origination fee: it is already inside those samples, but your final TIL disclosure is the document that counts.

Questions to ask a banker

Ask the oldest model year and highest mileage they will fund, how they set value (guide book versus sale price), and the maximum loan-to-value. Ask whether tax, title and fees can roll in, whether private-party purchases are allowed, and what happens if the title is branded. Get the APR, term, fees and as-of date in writing. If a rate-aggregator site quotes a "SouthState auto rate" with no date and no origination note, treat it as marketing, not a quote.

Why the car's history is still on you

A lender underwrites your credit and a car it may never see. If that car later shows frame damage or a washed flood brand, you still owe the balance. Run the report before you finalize the loan. Our post on dealer free AutoCheck reports covers when a complimentary PDF is too thin. If an accident line shows up, read our CARFAX accident reported guide. Shopping in Florida, Georgia or the Carolinas where SouthState is strong? Pair the loan homework with the state title posts for wherever the car is registered.

How neighbors compare

SouthState at least posts dated sample APRs. Our Renasant auto loan post found a Southeast peer that invites used-car loans with no rates on the site. Trustmark and Simmons Bank posts show similar "no history report included" patterns. First Horizon is stricter on age and salvage in our earlier write-up. None of these banks hand you a CARFAX with the closing papers.

Freshness note on those APRs

The page I read on Oct 18, 2026 still carried the 02/02/2026 as-of stamp. Rates move. If you apply weeks later, demand a current disclosure with today's date, the origination fee called out, and whether the autopay discount is included. A screenshot from this article is not a quote. SouthState's own fine print says rates, terms and conditions can change with eligibility and market conditions.

Decode the VIN on NHTSA vPIC so the year and model on the note match the car. Search NMVTIS for brands, and skim CARFAX's report overview for what feeds a report. We're a licensed CARFAX and AutoCheck reseller with no affiliation to CARFAX, AutoCheck, Experian or SouthState. As of mid October 2026 guests pay about $5.50, members about $4.50, and the bundle about $6.75, versus retail near $39.99 to $44.99. The checkout screen has the final price, so confirm there.
