Used Lexus LX Buying Guide: LX 570 V8 vs LX 600 V6

The used Lexus LX question in mid October 2026 comes down to one thing: do you want the old 5.7-liter V8 LX 570 (sold through 2021) or the 2022-on LX 600 with a twin-turbo V6, and if it is the LX 600, has the VIN been cleared for Toyota's V35A engine recall? That campaign can end with a dealer replacing the whole engine for free, which is great news if you own the truck and a real problem if you are buying one where nobody checked. The V8 is simpler and slower; the V6 is quicker, thirstier than a car but much better than the V8, and still being recalled.

The LX has always been a Land Cruiser in a suit. Car and Driver's LX 600 drive points out the original LX450 was little more than an 80-series Land Cruiser with nicer leather, and that with the Land Cruiser gone from U.S. showrooms at the time, the LX was left on its own. Toyota brought the Land Cruiser name back for 2024 as a smaller, two-row truck, which our used Toyota Land Cruiser buying guide covers. If you want Lexus luxury in a smaller, cheaper body-on-frame SUV, read the used Lexus GX buying guide first. A GX usually costs less to buy, and plenty of families never use the LX's extra size.

LX 570 vs LX 600

The LX 570 ran a 5.7-liter V8 rated at 383 hp and 403 lb-ft, per MotorTrend's LX 600 first test. C/D put the old truck's EPA rating at a dismal 14 mpg combined. It is not fast and it is thirsty, but the V8 has been around a long time and most of its quirks are known. You buy one for the reputation and the simple hardware.

The LX 600 moved to the same platform as the new Tundra and Sequoia, according to MotorTrend, with a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V6 making 409 hp and 479 lb-ft through a 10-speed automatic. MotorTrend measured 0-60 mph in 6.7 seconds, 0.6 second quicker than the LX 570 they tested, and EPA ratings rose to 17 city, 22 highway, 19 combined. C/D got a loaded Ultra Luxury to 60 in 6.1 seconds. Both outlets liked the engine. MotorTrend was less sold on the rest of the truck; its headline literally says "more engine, not enough everything else." The current Car and Driver LX page also lists the LX 700h hybrid, so a newer LX listing might be either one. Check the VIN.

Look at seat count before you fall for a trim. C/D's LX page mentions a four-seat trim meant for the chauffeured set on the hybrid, and that is a very different family car than a three-row truck. Count the seats in person rather than trusting the ad copy.

Recalls we pulled by VIN year

We checked the NHTSA recalls API for LX on October 15, 2026, and the LX 600 list is the longer one. 24V381000 covers 2022-2023 LX 600s with the V35A engine, where manufacturing debris can make the main bearings fail and stall the engine; the remedy was an engine replacement. 25V767000 widened that to 2022-2024 LX and 2024 GX: dealers inspect the number-one main bearing using inspection software and drive data and replace the engine if needed, with owner letters dated August 28, 2026. 24V125000 updates transmission software on 2022-2024 LX 600s that could move unexpectedly in neutral with the brakes off. 26V180000 covers a front passenger seat frame on 2022-2024 LX that can confuse the occupant sensor; the final fix was expected between September 17 and October 1, 2026, so some trucks may still be waiting. 2025-2026 LX 600s add 26V094000 for transmission software, and a panoramic camera campaign (25V744000) also appears.

On the LX 570, campaign 18V887000 covers 2008-2019 trucks whose seat belt tension sensor wiring can break and switch off the front passenger air bags, and 20V682000 covers a fuel pump on 2018-2019 trucks. For 2020 and 2021 LX 570 the API returned zero campaigns when we checked. Pull the NHTSA recalls feed for a 2023 LX or the feed for a 2018 LX 570, then confirm the truck itself with our Lexus recall check by VIN guide. Decode with our Lexus VIN decoder walkthrough or NHTSA vPIC first.

What to ask the seller

For an LX 600, ask for the dealer repair order on the engine campaign, not a verbal "it's done." A replaced engine is not a bad thing; an uninspected one on a truck you just bought is. Do a cold start, watch for warning lights, and make sure the 10-speed shifts cleanly once warm. On an LX 570, look for a long, boring service history, which is what you want on a V8 with this many years behind it. And on any LX, check the underside. Some of these get used for overland trips and towing, and a shiny grille tells you nothing about the skid plates.

History report and cost

A used SUV at this price level deserves more than a seller's screenshot. A CARFAX through us runs about $5.50 as a guest or $4.50 as a member, and a CARFAX plus AutoCheck bundle is about $6.75, while retail sits near $39.99 to $44.99 as of mid October 2026.
