Try the Zafira Tourer with your own family before deciding it is the right car. Confirm the offered Vauxhall Zafira Tourer matches its paperwork, then book an inspection that covers its construction and fitted equipment.
I used Auto Express used Zafira Tourer review when preparing this November 7, 2026 guide. Those sources describe the model engineering and historical context, not every surviving chassis. So, the checks below turn that background into questions for a seller and a workshop; they do not assign a failure rate or current market value.
Make sure the seven seats suit you
Try the Zafira Tourer with your own family before deciding it is the right car. Auto Express describes a spacious cabin and second-row seats that slide individually, but says the third row is fine for children and cramped for adults. It quotes 710 litres of boot space with the third row folded. Fold and raise every seat, check the mechanisms lock firmly and load the boot with what you carry on a normal week.
Pick the engine and gearbox carefully
Auto Express says the manual gearbox is nicer than the clunky automatic and that the 1.8 petrol is underwhelming, while the other engines are very good. Automatics came only with the 1.4 turbo petrol or the 2.0 CDTi 163 or 168. The 2.0 CDTi diesel was the most popular. Confirm the engine from the plate and documents, and drive an automatic in traffic to see whether its behaviour bothers you before you agree a price.
Test the electrics, locks and tailgate
Several electrical items on the Zafira Tourer are not as tough as they should be, so test them all. Auto Express advises checking every interior and exterior light and the wipers, and notes that the radio can turn itself on and flatten the battery. It also says the central locking and especially the tailgate release can be temperamental. Lock and open the car with the key several times and check the tailgate opens every time.
Listen for binding rear brakes
Squealing or squeaking rear brakes on a Zafira Tourer can point to binding, which Auto Express says affected quite a number of cars. Ask the inspector to check the rear calipers, pads and discs for uneven wear and heat. Feel the wheels after a drive for one that is much hotter. Ask for invoices for brake work and fluid changes, which the review puts at every two years. Price any needed brake repair before you agree a deal.
Check the facelift lighting and tech
Facelifted Zafira Tourers from October 2016 gained better connectivity and Adaptive Forward Lighting with LED headlights, Auto Express says. Confirm which version you are viewing, test the lights and infotainment, and check that the advert does not claim features the car lacks.
Put the identity and import file beside the inspection
The physical chassis identifier must agree with the sale documents before a report is ordered. Use our VIN identity checks to organise that comparison and our imported-car report guide to understand why foreign history may be thin. Ask for original registration, import and ownership papers as applicable. NMVTIS offers a U.S. title-history route with defined coverage; it does not certify a bespoke build or replace foreign records. A fake PDF can disguise an ownership gap, so verify evidence through the issuing source rather than accepting a seller screenshot.
Agree the specialist work before leaving a deposit
Tell the shop which version and components it will see, then agree lift access, a controlled road test and a written description of limitations. Our pre-purchase inspection checklist helps frame the appointment, while NYC used-car guidance recommends an independent mechanic. Ask the specialist to separate immediate safety work from cosmetic preferences and optional upgrades. Look, a repair estimate is useful only if a supplier will actually provide the required part. Have the shop obtain a response for any known missing item.
Keep the offer conditional on the findings you care about. Put any seller repair promise in the purchase agreement. If the workshop cannot establish structural condition or a route to a needed safety part, defer the deal rather than inventing a discount. The final decision should reflect the documented car and your intended use, not a figure copied from a launch story.
We are a licensed CARFAX and AutoCheck reseller, not affiliated with CARFAX, AutoCheck or Experian. Wholesale reports cost a few dollars; confirm current coverage and the total at checkout. A quiet report can miss unreported repairs. Keep the independent inspection even if the seller sends an impressive PDF.
