Does Visions FCU Require a CARFAX for a Car Loan?

Visions lists new auto APRs at 5.99% as of Nov. 1, 2026. A CARFAX is not listed as required, so run one yourself.

Does Visions FCU Require a CARFAX for a Car Loan?

Visions Federal Credit Union does not list a CARFAX or AutoCheck report as a requirement on its public auto loan rates table. Rates effective Nov. 1, 2026 showed new auto, truck and motorcycle APRs at 5.99%, used vehicles up to seven calendar years at 6.99%, and older used vehicles from eight to ten years at 9.99%, with financing up to 115% on listed tiers. Because those quotes assume the car matches the paperwork, pull a history report before you sign.

What Visions's page says

I read Visions Federal Credit Union's auto rates materials on Nov. 5, 2026. The table with rates effective Nov. 1, 2026 listed:

  • New Auto, Truck + Motorcycle (current and previous three calendar year vehicles): 5.99% APR, maximum term 84 months, amount financed up to 115%.
  • Used Auto, Truck + Motorcycle (model years up to seven calendar years): 6.99% APR, maximum term 75 months, amount financed up to 115%.
  • Older Used Auto, Truck + Motorcycle (vehicles from eight to ten years old): 9.99% APR, maximum term 48 months.
  • Relationship-builder notes that can add 0.25% without automatic payments, and other footnotes on the same page.

I did not find a line that said members must submit a CARFAX to close. Ask your loan officer what documents they need for your VIN and model year.

Why you should still pull a report

Older used tiers already price higher. A hidden rebuilt brand or odometer problem can push the car out of the advance you expected. Run NHTSA recalls, then buy a history report you control. Our NHTSA versus CARFAX, NMVTIS versus CARFAX and credit union branded title checklist guides cover the gaps.

Questions to ask Visions before you sign

  • Do you require a CARFAX, AutoCheck or NMVTIS printout for this VIN?
  • Which model-year tier does my VIN fall into, and does a brand change that tier?
  • Is the 115% advance available on this car after tax and fees?
  • Which add-ons are optional under CFPB rules for this loan?

Age tiers and title brands

Visions prices by calendar age. Confirm the model year on the title matches the tier you were quoted. A title brand is a separate underwriting question from age. Do not assume a clean rate quote survives a salvage stamp you only discover at funding.

On the day you buy

Match every VIN location to the title and the history report. Confirm the seller ID matches the title name. Keep a screenshot of the Nov. 1, 2026 effective rate table with your file, because posted APRs change.

What to bring anyway

Visions posts APR tiers by vehicle age, not a public CARFAX mandate. Bring your own history report and a NHTSA recall printout so underwriting questions about brands and mileage do not slow funding at the last minute.

Rate shopping without skipping the VIN

Visions posts clear age tiers. That helps you estimate payment, but it does not replace a title check. A ten-year-old car with a rebuilt brand is not the same collateral as a ten-year-old clean-title car at 9.99% APR.

If you are near a tier boundary, confirm how Visions counts "calendar years" for your VIN. A misunderstanding about current versus previous model years can change both APR and max term.

Automatic payment footnotes

Visions notes that relationship pricing can change without automatic payments. Read that footnote before you lock a payment in your budget. A 0.25% bump is small on paper and real across a 75-month used loan.

Optional payment enrollment is not a substitute for verifying the car. Keep GAP and service-contract decisions separate, as CFPB explains for lender add-ons.

Private-party purchases

Credit union loans on private-party cars still need a matching VIN on the title, bill of sale and history report. Ask Visions how they handle out-of-state titles and whether they need an inspection before funding. Our how to read a CARFAX report guide helps you brief the loan officer with the right pages marked.

Dealership desk pressure

If a dealer says Visions "already ran everything," ask for the VIN on their PDF and compare it to the dash plate. Keep your own report anyway. A credit union rate sheet is not a substitute for reading accident and brand sections yourself.

What the report costs

As of early November 2026 a CARFAX bought direct usually costs around $44.99, and AutoCheck sits a little lower. We are a licensed CARFAX and AutoCheck reseller, not affiliated with CARFAX, AutoCheck or Experian. Our guest price has been about $5.50 a report, about $4.50 for members, and about $6.75 for a CARFAX and AutoCheck bundle. Confirm the price at checkout, since it can change.
