Genisys Credit Union is unusually direct on branded titles: its auto education content states that Genisys and many other institutions will not finance a rebuilt or salvage title. The same auto tools promote receiving a CARFAX report alongside NADA research links. If you plan to finance through Genisys, clear the title status before you pay a deposit on a "cheap" rebuilt SUV.
What Genisys publishes
These points come from Genisys Credit Union auto loan and education pages reviewed Nov. 5, 2026. Confirm with Genisys before you apply.
- Auto loan rates by model year were posted with an effective date of Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026, including examples such as 4.04% as low as for shorter terms on newer model years, with longer terms at higher APRs.
- Separate term tables listed as-low-as rates across 36 to 87 months for qualified members.
- Shopping content included "Receive a CARFAX Report" plus NADA new and used research links and partner dealerships.
- GAP insurance was explained and offered as an add-in product when financing with Genisys.
- A salvage-title FAQ stated Genisys will not finance rebuilt or salvage titles and explained Michigan salvage labeling in plain language.
That salvage stance is the headline for shoppers hunting auction rebuilds. A low asking price does not help if the loan cannot close. Our credit union salvage title loan guide covers how other CUs policies vary; Genisys's public FAQ is clearer than most.
How to use the CARFAX mention
When a credit union says you can receive a CARFAX report in its buying tools, use that path for partner inventory when it applies. For a private-party car, pull the report yourself from the windshield VIN and compare brands with NMVTIS. Michigan salvage rules, which Genisys summarizes, are not identical in every state, so read the brand on the paper title in your hand.
Watch for title washing after a state hop. Our title washing explainer shows how a brand can look softer after a move even when the underlying damage remains. Fake report checks still apply if a seller hands you a PDF at a gas station.
Rate and term reality
The Nov. 5, 2026 model-year rate tables are "as low as" figures for excellent credit and can change with collateral age, payment protection packages and direct deposit. Ask Genisys for a quote on the exact VIN and term. A longer term on an older car can pass the payment test and fail the equity test a year later. See loan-to-value basics before you stretch the term to win a bidding war.
Steps that keep funding smooth
- Confirm the title is clean, not salvage or rebuilt, before you negotiate hard.
- Run NHTSA recalls and keep the printout for the loan file.
- Schedule a pre-purchase inspection on anything with age or modifications.
- Ask whether open recalls or branded history beyond salvage (flood, lemon) create extra conditions.
- Decide on GAP with clear numbers, not a rushed desk pitch. Our GAP guide helps.
When to walk
Walk from a rebuilt title you hoped Genisys would "make an exception" on, a seller who cannot show the title, or a report that disagrees with the story on the lot. Genisys already told you the salvage rule in public. Believe it.
Bring the windshield VIN to your loan officer before you transfer a deposit. A five-minute check beats a week of untangling a deal that cannot fund. If the seller refuses to wait for that check, you learned something useful about the seller.
Keep copies of the history report, the NHTSA recall printout, the bill of sale and any lender pre-approval email in one folder. When a desk manager paraphrases your rate, you will have the real numbers in front of you. Honestly, most funding delays come from paperwork gaps, not from mystery underwriting.
If you are comparing two credit unions, ask each the same branded-title and open-recall questions on the same day. Write the answers down. Marketing APRs move; collateral rules decide if your chosen car can close.
What the report costs
As of early November 2026 a CARFAX bought direct usually costs around $44.99, and AutoCheck sits a little lower. We are a licensed CARFAX and AutoCheck reseller, not affiliated with CARFAX, AutoCheck or Experian. Our guest price has been about $5.50 a report, about $4.50 for members, and about $6.75 for a CARFAX and AutoCheck bundle. Confirm the price at checkout, since it can change.
