To check Maserati recalls by VIN, run the 17-digit VIN on NHTSA's recall lookup and then have a Maserati dealer print the open campaign list, because a used Ghibli, Levante, or Quattroporte can carry several small fixes that nobody bothered to book. In mid October 2026 the campaign that touches the most late-model cars is 25V-098, radio software that can keep the rearview camera image from showing on Grecale, MC20, GranTurismo, GranCabrio, Levante, Ghibli, and Quattroporte models.
Maserati files through Maserati North America, Inc., and the dealer will quote its own short recall number, like 740, next to the NHTSA ID. Both describe the same job. When we pulled Maserati data from NHTSA on October 13, 2026, the older sedans and the Levante showed a long tail of fuel line, software, and assembly campaigns going back to 2014, while the newer Grecale and GranTurismo were collecting camera and headlight filings. Low unit counts are normal for this brand, and they don't make an open line on the car in front of you any less real.
How to run a Maserati VIN
Check that the VIN on the dash plate matches the door jamb and the title, then use our guide to checking recalls by VIN on NHTSA to read incomplete versus completed versus remedy not yet available. Call the service desk at a Maserati dealer and ask for open campaigns by VIN. Dealer coverage is thin in parts of the country, so if a seller says "the nearest dealer is three hours away, it's fine," that is a reason to get the printout before you drive it home, not after.
Ghibli, Quattroporte, and Levante: the long tail
Fuel line work shows up repeatedly on these cars. 21V-872 covers 409 2021 Quattroporte, Ghibli, 2021-2022 Levante, and 2022 MC20 vehicles whose fuel line sensor housing may crack and leak fuel, and 24V-269 expanded it to 58 more 2021-2022 Quattroporte and Ghibli cars. Dealers replace the housing. Older 2014-2018 sedans had their own fuel delivery line and hose recalls too, so a high-mile early Ghibli deserves the full printout.
Early Levantes had a nasty software issue. 16V-936 covered about 1,514 2017 Levante vehicles whose engine software could shift the transmission to neutral or shut the engine down at about two miles per hour, and 17V-161 followed with about 3,291 more Levantes for the same stop-and-go behavior. A related campaign, 18V-173, covered about 9,044 2017 Ghibli and V6 Quattroporte cars. All three are engine control software reflashes at a dealer. On 2018 Quattroporte, Ghibli, and Levante models, 18V-347 covered 62 cars whose front subframe welds may be incomplete. Small number, big part, so it is worth checking on a 2018.
Grecale, GranTurismo, and MC20: camera and headlight filings
NHTSA recall 25V-098 covers about 27,354 vehicles across nearly the whole lineup, from 2021-2024 Levante, Ghibli, and Quattroporte to 2023-2024 Grecale and 2022-2025 MC20. The radio software may stop the rearview image from displaying, and the fix goes over the air or at a dealer. Grecale and 2024 GranTurismo owners also saw 24V-892, park assist module software on about 1,710 cars with the same camera symptom. Then 25V-722 covered about 10,008 2023-2025 Grecale and 2024-2025 GranTurismo and GranCabrio vehicles whose headlights may be missing the caps that stop the aim from being adjusted. Dealers install the caps.
For background, Car and Driver's Grecale review lists a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 at 385 horsepower, or 523 in the Trofeo, with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive, plus a Folgore EV version reviewed separately. Consumer Reports notes the Ferrari engine partnership is over and says it has only tested the Grecale, which it liked for the engine and handling and found aggravating for its quirks. Look, a used Maserati is often a depreciation bargain. That only stays true if the free recall work is done and the history is clean.

If you are also looking at Italian or German alternatives, our Alfa Romeo recall check by VIN and Porsche recall check by VIN guides cover those brands the same way. A recall check misses title brands, odometer problems, and accident repairs. CARFAX says its reports include title brands, odometer readings, ownership, and reported accidents, and our guide on how to read a CARFAX report walks through each section. Watch for fake PDF reports passed around on exotic listings. As of mid October 2026, a CARFAX report through us is about $5.50 as a guest or $4.50 as a member, and a CARFAX plus AutoCheck bundle about $6.75, versus roughly $39.99 to $44.99 retail.
