If you want a used Cadillac XT4, the 2024 and 2025 cars are the ones worth paying up for, since that refresh brought the 33-inch curved screen and 2025 made the full Active Safety package standard. A 2019-2022 XT4 can be a good cheap buy if you can live with the older 8-inch CUE screen and a firm ride. Every XT4 uses the same 2.0-liter turbo four and nine-speed automatic, and GM built the last ones in January 2025, so this is a closed book: one generation, seven model years, no new ones coming.
I went through Car and Driver's year-by-year pages and the NHTSA recalls API for every XT4 model year on Saturday morning, October 17, 2026. The ending is well documented. Car and Driver reported in November 2024 that Cadillac confirmed XT4 production would end in January 2025 at GM's Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas City, Kansas, to make room for the next Chevrolet Bolt EV, making 2025 the final U.S. model year. The XT4 had still sold 15,688 units in the first three quarters of 2024, so there are plenty of used ones out there. NHTSA's database lists no 2026 XT4 at all.
What changed from year to year
The XT4 launched for 2019 as Cadillac's first subcompact crossover. C/D's 2019 review rated it 8 out of 10 but did not go easy on it: a 237-hp turbo four, a slow-shifting nine-speed, 7.8 seconds to 60 mph in their test, harsh ride over rough pavement and "too many cheap-feeling materials." Safety tech was mostly optional that first year. For 2020, automated emergency braking, forward-collision warning and front pedestrian detection became standard. The 2022 engine is rated 235 hp instead of 237, and 2023 made blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert standard.
The 2024 refresh is the big split. It added a new front end and lighting, plus the Lyriq's 33.0-inch display running Cadillac's Google-based Android Automotive interface, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 5G hotspot. On the 2025 model page, C/D notes that the base Luxury trim was dropped and the Active Safety package (adaptive cruise, lane-keep assist, surround-view camera) became standard on every XT4. That matters when you shop: a 2024 Luxury may lack features a 2025 has, so check the window sticker or build sheet, not the badge.
Be honest with yourself about the drive. Consumer Reports calls the engine buzzy when revved and got just 23 mpg overall on premium gas. C/D's 2025 verdict says it "misses the mark when it comes to overall refinement." The upside is space: C/D fit 18 carry-on suitcases with the rear seats folded. Factory coverage was a 4-year or 50,000-mile limited warranty plus 6 years or 70,000 miles on the powertrain, so a 2021 or newer car may still have powertrain warranty left. Check the in-service date, not the model year.
XT4 recalls to check on the VIN
None of these are scary on their own, and every one I found has a dealer remedy. The point is to see them marked complete:
- 22V868, 2019-2020 with Surround Vision: the video processing module can lose contact with the rearview camera. The NHTSA record says dealers update the software or replace the module.
- 21V649, 2019-2021: rear seat belt retractors may have loose or missing fasteners.
- 20V668, 2019-2020: the start-stop transmission accumulator endcap may be missing bolts.
- 20V588, 2020: contaminated sensor connections in the electronic brake boost system; dealers replace the brake boost module. 2020 cars also fall under 21V115 for Continental tires cured too long.
- 22V359, 2022: an improper weld in the driver seat's power tilt mechanism.
- 24V795, 2025: the dash cover may be missing the perforation the passenger air bag needs to deploy properly. Dealers replace the upper panel cover. 24V575 on 2024 cars is just a wrong owner's manual.
The API returned nothing for the 2023 model year. Our Cadillac recall check by VIN walkthrough covers how to confirm what is still open, and the Cadillac VIN decoder guide helps you confirm the build year and drivetrain. An all-wheel-drive car priced like a front-driver is worth a second look.
XT4 or something else
If you need more power or tow anything, our used Cadillac XT5 buying guide covers the bigger sibling, which offers a V6. C/D notes that the XT5 and the electric Optiq now hold the bottom of Cadillac's crossover lineup, and the used Cadillac Lyriq guide is where to start if you are open to an EV. C/D's own comparisons keep pointing at the BMW X1, which ran to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds to the 2024 XT4's 7.0, and our used BMW X1 buying guide covers it.
Read the history before the test drive
Cheap, discontinued luxury crossovers draw flippers, and some of those cars carry damage the listing never mentions. Check the title on NMVTIS, then read a full report for accident records, odometer readings and how many owners it has had. Never accept a report the seller forwards you as a PDF. They are easy to fake, and we have caught edited ones. CarVins is a licensed reseller of CARFAX and AutoCheck and has no affiliation with CARFAX, AutoCheck, Experian or Cadillac. In mid October 2026 a single report through us cost about $5.50 as a guest or about $4.50 as a member, around $6.75 for both brands, where buying direct is usually $39.99 to $44.99.
