Used Volvo V60 Buying Guide: Wagon and Cross Country

The used Volvo V60 to hunt for is a 2019 or newer second-generation wagon, ideally a 2023-2025 B5 Cross Country with both rear-camera software recalls closed, or a 2020-2022 T8 plug-in only after a Volvo dealer shows you that high-voltage battery recall 25V179 is done. The 2015-2018 cars are cheaper but older underneath, with their own seat belt and door latch recalls to clear. And because Volvo stopped taking U.S. orders for the V60 Cross Country in late January 2026, any V60 you shop now is a used or leftover car.

I pulled every V60 and V60 Cross Country recall from the NHTSA recalls API on Saturday morning, October 17, 2026, for model years 2015 through 2026. The 2026 queries came back empty. The wagon's exit was announced in a December 22, 2025 Volvo press release that said U.S. customers "overwhelmingly prefer SUVs," that orders would close in late January 2026 with production ending in April 2026, and that the V60 would keep being built for other markets. Volvo's media site refuses our link checker, so I am citing it unlinked. Road and Track covered the same release and noted Volvo had sold 3,630 V60 Cross Countrys in 2025 to that point, against 36,069 XC60s. Small numbers like that are why clean ones get bid up and rough ones get flipped.

Which V60 you are actually looking at

The first U.S. V60 ran from the 2015 to 2018 model years. Car and Driver's 2018 review lists a 240-hp T5, a turbocharged and supercharged 302-hp T6, and a 362-hp T6 Polestar, with all-wheel drive standard on the Cross Country, R-Design and Polestar. Their complaints were blunt: overdue for an update, so-so interior materials and an outdated infotainment system. These are the cheap ones, and they are now roughly eight to twelve years old.

Consumer Reports marks 2019 as the redesign year and calls the newer V60 the wagon version of the S60, sharing parts with the V90, S90, XC60 and XC90. For 2019, C/D's model-year page lists a front-drive 250-hp T5 and an all-wheel-drive 316-hp T6, and says the lifted Cross Country did not arrive until 2020. The plug-in came with the 2020 T8 Polestar Engineered: 415 hp, an 11.6-kWh battery, 22 miles of EPA electric range, and 4.4 seconds to 60 mph in C/D's testing. By the 2025 model year, C/D lists that car at 455 hp with up to 41 miles of claimed electric range, while the Cross Country B5 is a 247-hp mild hybrid rated 27 mpg combined.

Honestly, the B5 is not perfect. In a May 2025 review, Ars Technica said the eight-speed rushes into high gears, so you wait for downshifts when you need to pass, and noted Volvo had already dropped the regular V60 wagon earlier that year. CR says only the Cross Country was offered for 2026, with updated infotainment.

Recalls I would make the seller prove are closed

  • 25V179, 2020-2022 V60 plug-ins: the high-voltage battery can short internally when fully charged and parked. The NHTSA record says not to charge the car until dealers inspect it, replace battery modules as needed and update the monitoring software.
  • 25V282 and 25V908, 2023-2025 V60 and V60 Cross Country: the rear camera image may not show in reverse. 25V908 replaces the first fix, and cars repaired under 25V282 need the new remedy. Letters went out February 24, 2026.
  • 23V001, 2019-2022 Cross Country: a screw can fall into the steering gearbox; dealers replace the steering gear.
  • 2022-2023 software: 22V793 (engine may not start), 23V012 (a brake module error can drop ABS and stability control, fixed over the air) and 23V188 (a false e-Call warning on 2023 Cross Countrys).
  • 2019-2022: 20V144 (emergency braking software), 21V414 (fuel pump fuse), 21V001 (air bag control unit mounting) and 21V682 (child-seat locking retractors).
  • 2015-2018: 20V378 replaces fatigued front seat belt anchor cables, 19V849 replaces all four door latches on 2015-2017 cars, and 2017 cars had side air bag inflator campaigns 16V918 and 17V127.

Our Volvo recall check by VIN guide shows how to see which of these are still open, and the Volvo VIN decoder post plus NHTSA's free vPIC decoder will confirm a "Polestar" really is a T8 before you pay for one.

V60 or one of its siblings

If you do not need the cargo floor, our used Volvo S60 buying guide covers the sedan twin, which shares the 25V179 battery recall on its plug-ins. If you are open to an SUV, the used Volvo XC60 sits taller and, going by those sales numbers, is far easier to find. And if you want the long-roof feel with more rear legroom, the used Volvo S90 guide covers the bigger sedan, also gone from U.S. showrooms.

History check before you fall for the wagon

Run the VIN through NMVTIS for title brands, then pull a full report and compare odometer readings, accident entries and dealer service visits, which matter a lot on a plug-in. Do not trust a PDF the seller texts you. We have seen doctored ones, and they take five minutes to make. CarVins is a licensed CARFAX and AutoCheck reseller, not affiliated with CARFAX, AutoCheck, Experian or Volvo. This week a single report ran about $5.50 for guests and about $4.50 for members, both brands roughly $6.75, against $39.99 to $44.99 buying direct. Check the price at checkout before paying, since it can move.
