Used Honda Prologue Buying Guide: 2024 vs 2025, Recalls, Range

Why a 2025 Prologue is the pick, the 24V540 control arm recall, the 26V306 camera recall still awaiting a fix, towing fine print, and battery checks.

Used Honda Prologue Buying Guide: 2024 vs 2025, Recalls, Range

The used Honda Prologue to look for in mid October 2026 is a 2025, because Honda added power and range that year, but a well-priced 2024 is fine once you confirm by VIN that the front lower control arm recall (NHTSA 24V540) is closed. The bigger problem right now is the rearview camera recall 26V306 on 2024-2025 cars: Honda's fix was still not available as of the latest NHTSA record, so plenty of Prologues on sale today will have it open.

Under the Honda badge, the Prologue is really a GM product. Car and Driver calls it a rebadged Chevrolet Blazer EV on the same platform, with an 85.0-kWh battery sourced from General Motors and Chevy switchgear all over the cabin. For a used buyer, that is mostly good news, because the hardware is shared with a lot of other cars. It also means Honda's own reputation does not tell you much about this one.

2024 vs 2025 and later

The 2024 launch car came with a 212-hp front-drive single motor or a 288-hp dual-motor AWD, per C/D's 2024 Prologue review. EPA estimates were 296 miles for front-drive, 281 for AWD EX and Touring, and 273 for the AWD Elite. Trims are EX, Touring, and Elite. For 2025, a stronger front motor brought 220 hp for front-drive and 300 for AWD, and range rose to 308 and 294 miles, according to the 2025 review.

Real-world range sits well below that. C/D's 2024 Elite AWD went 240 miles in their highway test and got to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds. Peak DC fast charging is listed at 155 kW, but the tested average from 10 to 90 percent was 97 kW, per the current Prologue page. That is decent for a big family crossover, not exciting. One honest plus over the Chevy: the Prologue offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which the Blazer EV does not.

Which trim, and the towing fine print

For most people a front-drive EX or Touring is the sweet spot, since front-drive EX and Touring models carry the best efficiency ratings and the most range. The Elite adds the head-up display and other extras, but it loses range, and C/D calls the Prologue bland to drive in any trim. Every Prologue is rated to tow up to 1,500 pounds, but C/D notes the hitch, ball mount, and alternate rear trim piece are dealer-installed extras, not standard. If the ad says "tow ready," look under the back of the car before you believe it. If you really tow, a gas used Honda Passport is a better fit.

Recalls we found by model year

We checked the NHTSA recalls API on October 15, 2026. The 2024 Prologue returned three campaigns. 24V540 says the right front lower control arm may have a manufacturing defect that can cause it to fracture; dealers inspect and replace it as needed, and owner letters went out in September 2024. 26V112, filed in February 2026 and shared with the 2024 Acura ZDX, is a software error that can make the instrument panel display fail and the backup camera go blank. Dealers update the radio control module software.

Then there is 26V306, which covers 2024-2025 Prologues and the 2024 ZDX. The rearview camera screen can show a distorted or blank image, and the fix is a new camera. NHTSA's record says interim letters went out July 7, 2026, with the remedy expected in late 2026. So as of this week the recall may be open on a car with no fix available yet. That does not have to kill the deal, but you should know you are buying a car that will need a dealer visit, and you might want to knock something off the price. We found no 2026 Prologue recalls in the API.

Recall lists by year are broad. Only a VIN lookup tells you about the exact car, so follow our Honda recall check by VIN steps and keep a screenshot. Our Honda VIN decoder notes help confirm drive layout too, since sellers sometimes list a front-drive car as AWD.

Battery and history checks

C/D lists the 2024 Prologue's EV components at eight years or 100,000 miles, with complimentary maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles. Ask a Honda dealer what carries over to you as a second owner. On the test drive, check the range estimate at a known state of charge, and if a DC fast charger is nearby, plug in for ten minutes and watch the rate. A cold car will charge slower, so do not panic over one bad session.

A history report cannot give you a battery health number, but it can show battery or drive unit repairs, crash damage near the pack, and the ownership and lease history, which tells you how it was likely used and charged. Our EV battery health on CARFAX post explains what to look for.

Do not lean on the dealer's printout from the day it was traded in. A fresh CARFAX from us costs roughly $5.50 as a guest ($4.50 or so if you have an account), and pairing it with AutoCheck is about $6.75; retail is closer to $39.99-$44.99. Those figures shift, so trust the checkout page. We are a licensed reseller of both reports, not part of CARFAX, AutoCheck, or Experian. CARFAX lists what its reports include.
