On a used 2022 GMC Hummer EV pickup, the first job in mid October 2026 is confirming by VIN whether recall 26V494 has been done, since that fix is a whole new high-voltage battery. For most buyers the smart pick is a 2024 or later 2X pickup or 3X SUV with clean recall records; just budget for a nearly five-ton vehicle's appetite for tires, brakes, and charging time.
This post is about the electric Hummer that GMC started selling for 2022, not the old H1, H2, or H3. If you are shopping one of those, our Hummer recall check by VIN guide covers the older trucks. The new one is a different animal with a very different list of things to check.
Pickup or SUV, and which trim
The pickup came first. For 2022 only the Edition 1 was sold, with 1,000 hp from three motors, a 205.0-kWh pack, a 329-mile EPA estimate, and a 3.3-second run to 60 in C/D's testing, per Car and Driver's 2022 review. Cheaper trims followed. Today's lineup, per C/D's current pickup page, is the 570-hp dual-motor 2X and the 1,000-hp tri-motor 3X, plus a 2026 Carbon Fiber Edition based on the 3X. EPA range is 311 miles for the 2X and 314 for the 3X with the standard 20-module pack, or up to 381 with the optional 24-module pack.
Pay attention to towing if you plan to pull anything. C/D lists 12,100 pounds for the dual-motor truck, but only 7,500 to 8,500 for three-motor trucks. A 3X is the flashy one and still the worse tow vehicle. The SUV arrived for 2024 with a 170-kWh pack, an EPA estimate of up to 315 miles, or 289 with the mud-terrain tires, and a claimed 830 hp for the 3X, per the Hummer EV SUV review. It borrows the truck's CrabWalk four-wheel steering and air suspension with Extract mode, and carries a full-size spare on the rear gate.
What the weight costs you
C/D weighed a three-motor pickup at 9,640 pounds, and it shows up everywhere. Their test truck needed 211 feet to stop from 70 mph, with noticeable brake fade on repeated runs. Towing a 6,100-pound camper cut range to 140 miles at 70 mph. In their highway test the Edition 1 went 290 miles and the SUV went 250. Charging is not as fast as the ads claim either: the pickup peaked at 287 kW but averaged 98 kW and took more than two hours from 10 to 90 percent, and the SUV averaged 78 kW and needed 128 minutes.
So on a test drive, look hard at the tires and brakes. Tires that size are a real expense, and a seller who skipped them is telling you something about the rest of the maintenance. Ask for a recent alignment and brake inspection receipt if one exists.
Recalls we found, and the naming mess
NHTSA files this truck under different model names by year, so search all of them. When we ran the API on October 15, 2026, the newest 2022 battery recall and the 2026 campaigns only showed up under "HUMMER EV PICKUP" or "HUMMER EV SUV," while older 2022 and the 2023-2024 results sat under plain "HUMMER EV." Search one name and you could think the truck is clean.
The big one is 26V494 on the 2022 pickup. Filed in July 2026, it says the high-voltage battery may have an improperly secured internal module component, and dealers replace the battery. Owner letters went out August 24, 2026, so on a 2022 truck for sale right now it may well still be open. Ask the dealer for the parts availability and timeline before you sign. Two older 2022 campaigns also involve the pack: 23V367 for battery connections that may be out of position or badly welded, where dealers inspect and replace the pack if needed, and 22V771 for 2022-2023 pickups whose pack enclosure may not be sealed against water. The summary we pulled still said the remedy was under development, so ask a GMC dealer whether the fix exists now and whether this truck got it.
On 2023-2024 trucks, 23V786 covers front seat belt buckle bolts that may not be tightened properly, and 24V320 covers 2024 SUVs whose rear drive unit motors may have poorly insulated wires that can cause loss of drive power; the fix is a new rear drive unit. 2026 trucks have 25V769, a badly crimped front passenger air bag wire fixed with an added jumper wire, plus a minor owner's manual download recall. We found no 2025 entries. Use our GMC recall check by VIN steps, and decode the VIN with our GMC VIN decoder notes so a 2X is not being sold as a 3X.
Battery checks and coverage
C/D lists GM's battery component coverage at eight years or 100,000 miles. Ask a GMC dealer to confirm what you inherit, and to print the recall and warranty history for the VIN. A history report will not give you a battery health number, but it can show battery replacements under recall, drive unit work, and crash damage near the pack. Our EV battery health on CARFAX post covers what to look for, and if you are cross-shopping, our used Rivian R1T buying guide is the obvious comparison.
Get the report yourself
A seller's PDF from before August 2026 will not show 26V494 at all. On a truck this expensive, the report is pocket change either way: about $5.50 here as a guest, around $4.50 as a member, roughly $6.75 for CARFAX and AutoCheck together, against $39.99 to $44.99 retail. Confirm the price at checkout. We are a licensed CARFAX and AutoCheck reseller with no affiliation to CARFAX, AutoCheck, or Experian. CARFAX explains its reports here.
